I personally don't no, I just believe it should always be free.
For my personal domains in the past, companies have tried to increase my fee's simply for DNS management and I've just moved away without a thought.

Most hosts have DNS through cPanel or Parallels BA.

Yes, we charge for DNS (multiple nodes in multiple datacenters). If the client wants free DNS they can use their registrar or run their own.

I've seen the term "DNS management" thrown around a lot, and I've always assumed that it was nothing more than setting up nameservers & DNS entries. Is there more to it than this? Because unless you're talking about a sophisticated enterprise-grade setup, I really can't fathom charging for this.

As I'm no longer a host, I'll answer from the other perspective...
Lots of domain registrars will throw in some free DNS management. This is sometimes super basic, simple ability to edit records with a high TTL in order to reduce load and cost. I expect to get this kind of thing for free.
When we are talking full fine-grained control, with geographical redundancy, that's something I expect to pay for (either as part of a "premium" hosting product, or, separately).Alasdair

You can do it in cPanel for free. DNS management is usually free in WHMCS too.
It doesn't cost the host anything extra for you to have custom nameservers so there is no point charging extra for it.HostXNow - Shared Web Hosting | Semi Dedicated Hosting | Enterprise Reseller Hosting | VPS Hosting

I do charges it but in a cheaper price.
But don't follow me while you need to follow your competitor.
If your competitor do not charges on DNS then you should not charges on it to stay competitive in the market.

Most companies give free dns management with top level domains. But for country level domains, there would be a charge for sure.

No. And setup/tech support is specifically listed as included in base fees. As a matter of fact, we would rather do it than have someone do something wrong and blame the system for the results of their settings.

If it's through the panels and such, no we don't, it's upto the client anyway.
However, if they want us to manage their own dns servers or such, we obviously do. :>

I think if they buy the domain, DNS management is their rights. So it must be free.
