It's possible to use Xeon E3-1230 3.2 ГГц/1+8Мб/5 LGA1155 in web server mahine?
Hey guys.
I'm buyig my own web server for holding a few websites (each website got ~3000 uniquem visitors every day).
And i'm stuck in this 2 options:
First one with 2 processors web server, 2Tb dist for backups, and ssd disks for everything else:
Case: 1U Intel® or ASUS with 2 LGA1366 slots.
CPU: 2x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5645 (12M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 5.86 GT/s Intel® QPI).
RAM: 6x Samsung 4Gb ECC Registered.
SSD (Raid0): 2x Intel 120Gb Solid State Drives.
HDD: 1x 1Tb or 2Tb Samsung Hard drive.
And another option (with 1 CPU only):
Case: 1U Intel® or ASUS with 1 LGA1155 slot.
CPU: 1x Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1230 (8M Cache, 3.20 GHz).
RAM: 2x Samsung 8Gb or 4Gb ECC Registered
Drives:
SSD - 1x Intel 120Gb Solid State Drives.
HDD - 1x 1Tb or 2Tb Samsung Hard drive.
or
2x HDD (Raid1) - 1x 1Tb or 2Tb Samsung Hard drive.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
I use SSD instead of SAS because price for SSD and SAS almost same at that moment.
I wonder if second optoin with one CPU good and it's possible to use it for web server with few websites?
P.S. Second option almost twice cheaper. And maybe twice worse.
Probably i'll use Cent OS.

The E3-1230 is great value for money, but you can't really compare it with 2x E5645. For a few sites the E3-1230 should be good enough, unless you get a lot of hits.

Truly a tough comparison for the e3-1230. One of the E5645 is more comparable, but two of them? If it is in the budget, get the Dual E5645!

2x Xeon® E5645 - is maximum that i can affored. That's why i started to look in to cheaper options.
But i think it's better to pay ones for 2x Xeon® E5645 and forget about server for a few years then but something else more cheaper and think about upgrade in near future.
Still i got a few questions: Is there are any fresh processors like Xeon® E5645? Because Xeon® E5645 -is too old i think, it's 1Q 2010. Now almost 2012.
And another question is about Xeon® E5645 and Xeon® E5640. Why Xeon® E5640 more expencive then 5645?
Xeon® E5645 got better benchmark and better stats (more cores), and it's cheaper then Xeon® E5640, can't figure out what is going on
