    Website security

In many websites we have seen the 'Verisign' or 'Sitelock' logo. Are these really needed for the security of the website and does visitors really care about these before buying with their credit card?If so which one is good among these?

The Verisign SSL will give you the logo in Google's search pages which brings more attention and trust. It's $300/year and requires you to be incorporated.

If someone runs an e-commerce website from home or sells other products through his website, can't he have the 'Verisign' on his website after signing up?

well they just bring people trust, as client information is data is safe with them.

It really all just comes down to site/information verification. If people know you have a registered business that has been verified by a trusted company (like verisign), customers are likely to feel more secure. However it doesnt make your actual site anymore secure (just creates a bigger sense of security for the consumers).

One thing to keep in mind, is that while compliance certificates like Verisign are great visual affirmations for the customer, security needs to go deeper than just checking certificate boxes.

These type of seals can be provided with some ssl certificates.
Its worth getting a ssl certificate if you are handling personal/financial information. Things like the ssl cert green bar and site seals help convince your customers you are and can be trusted.

Most people don't even know to look for the logo. I've found it to be pointless. Some people might look for it, sure, but most are oblivious. It's been faked so many times that the logo alone is worthless. People are all told to look at the SSL status in the browser bar, including by the banks and browser makers. Even retired folks I know are aware of this, and I wasn't the one who told them. (I was both surprised and proud that they did know it.)
