Alternatives to PayPal in the UK?
I was looking for a good Alternative to PayPal in the UK. I'm sick of PayPal. They've held my money for over 3 months it the past whilst they were "actively working towards a solution" and other mishaps, so looking for a fresh start!
I would like it to be as cheap as Paypal and have an API, but that pretty much it! Oh! Of course it should allow me to accept payments.

Never had any problems with paypal holding my money, but it's good to offer Google Checkout also.
These are two names people trust, anything else looks less attractive to most customers.

I've never really had a problem with PayPal either, and I've been using them for 3 years. The one time the account was suspended, I gave PayPal a phone call and it was resolved within minutes.
You do hear horror stories about PayPal though, which is why it pays to offer two or more payment gateways. Personally, I'd choose PayPal and Google Checkout.
Have you taken a look at Amazon Payments? I've never used Amazon myself as a merchant, but paid for an item through Amazon Payments 2 days ago. Pleasant experience! May be worthwhile looking at.

Not that I'm aware of. Since Google are still advertising and promoting Checkout to merchants in the UK, I very much doubt it's closing down.
Who told you it was closing?

I've not heard anything about google checkout closing in the uk, mind you because ive never used my account they've suspended me, just trying to get it back open,
But google buzz is closing
Google Buzz is going away, but your posts are yours to keep
In a few weeks we'll be retiring Google Buzz. At that time you won't be able to create any new posts, but your existing content will remain accessible in two ways:

That's hardly surprising, since it was a great big flop. I expect Google will do the same with Google+ in a few years time too.
My Google Checkout is fine and dandy though, so no closure in the near future.

We have had pretty good experience with them.

WorldPay seems to be a popular alternative. Although I don't like their pricing structure, nor do I have any experience with them.
That said, PayPal is a fantastic company to deal with in my opinion. Prompt, responsive and I always get through to their UK (or is it Rep. Ireland?) call centre. They take the time to call me every now and again to see how things going which gives me an opportunity to discuss any issues I've had/having and ask any questions. In one call they even took the time to give me some feedback on our website which I thought was really caring of them to take the time to do.. No marketing talk whatsoever.

I use Worldpay. They are a bit expensive though, and you can't withdraw straight away, you need to meet about $200 or so in order to withdraw it.
That said, it allows you to accept Visa/MasterCard, JCB, Amex, Diners etc. Though the last two I wouldn't suggest, because they charge way too much.
