Server monitoring with phone call alert

    Hello,

We are looking for server monitoring service but it must include phone call alert.

I need something to wake me UP in the middle of the night and SMS is not going to.

We are using monitoring service and it works great with SMS and e-mail monitoring but we have 3 premium servers that i need monitoring with phone call becouse they are our most important servers and we would like to include extra monitoring to them.

    Thanks

You can try configuring the alerts to an email address which will push/pull the notification to your phone. Configure that address with a very loud ringtone. That's what I do on my SGS2.

There is nothing that makes a phone call different from a SMS in terms of waking someone up other than the duration of the ring. Most cell services will kick to voice mail at 5 rings or less.

On many phones you can set the ring type based on a schedule. So, set the night schedule to use a really long, loud ringtone or song.

You can also set a repeat schedule that is tighter.

Just set your sms ringtone same as your phone ringtone. Easy on an android, not sure about other phones.

The problem is that i receive unimportant messages on my phone in the middle of the night and i do not want to be waked up every time i receive message thats i want the phone call.

I have Samsung Galaxy S2, i`m not sure if i can configure specific number to give specific sms alert (ringtone).

Maybe there is other option. Company who provides Android application and when my server goes off-line to alert me with loud tone. My phone is 24/7 connected to the net so it will be acceptable solution. Just to mention i`m not saying application who will check/ping from my phone, application just to receive notification when something is wrong, all the pinging and checking need to be on their side ( it save power and battery life and phone life )

    Thanks for all the replays.

You can save the number as a contact and set a contact specific ringtone.

    Use something like Ringo https://market.android.com/details?i...icpocket.ringo
    pro&hl=en

They have a free version too.

Android doesn't have this functionality inbuilt, I am not sure if Samsung has added it to their phones.

I'm not sure about the default messaging app which I don't use, you can check out Go SMS. It can allow you to select a message ringtone specific to a contact.

You can try 100pulse.com - 15 mints monitoring interval, free instant alerts via SMS, tweets and other updates. Cost is very very low compared to other service providers.

  12. hmmm...if you do not hear your SMS alerts what make you think you will hear the phone call rings? Unless you are looking to a call on a line phone instead of a cellphone make no sense to me.

Not sure if I'm hijacking the thread somewhat here but -- does anyone know of a monitoring company that will manually call a phone number/s [pager] and leave a message with the pager contact centre? Or at the very least, be able to send DTMF signals down the phone to send a numeric message.

At that point you might as well get a fully managed server and leave standing instructions with the NOC to call you.

Glad we were able to help out MattHouston. Many of our customers say they hate to hear from us in the middle of the night, but it's a lot better than hearing from their customers (or their boss ) the next morning!

If you have good knowledge of PHP, you can develop a small application which will send you email alert or sms (using API).

If you know Asterisk Server, you can do what you want I mean phone calls. Bu that would be complex, very confusing.

Yup thats the best solution... To some have manually call you from the NOC... they will do the monitoring and will alert you as and when required...

Panopta is really good. We use them for some tests and it's always 100% accurate.

I had the same problem, solution was rather easy. Configure your phone alerts to keep ringing every XX minutes.

But then I changed my phone and it doesn't have this feature anymore, I don't hear a SMS either because its just one beep and thats it, specially when im drunk.

So I modified one of my monitoring stations to execute a call action via a PBX which then calls to the phone.

It's an expensive custom solution but I guess someone will come up with the same idea to sell it as a service.

Another solution if you need this right now is keep sending the SMS alerts. At least this will wake you up eventually. If your phone can customize ringones per SMS sender, you can even configure a different ringtone for this alers, some really scary sound.

Alertra.com offers monitoring with phone call notification. But this tends to get expensive, you're better off with configuring your sms notification from the specific number that the sms's come from to use a calling ringtone.
