For those interested in learning more about the status of the Save Hosting Coalition, the WHIR is putting on a webinar this coming Tuesday, November 1st, 2011.

"After three months of organizing, the coalition is poised for direct action. During the webinar, attendees will learn about the status of a letter on PIPA to the chairmen of the Senate Judiciary Committee, organizational efforts designed to ensure a solid foundation for future efforts, and information about a new “kill switch” bill pending in the House of Representatives, that appears to be more damaging than PIPA.

We encourage those interested in Save Hosting to attend, whether you’ve heard our message before, or are new to the coalition. Now is the time to act, and we need your help."

I hope people do join us - this should be a great jumping on point for a lot of people to come help us with this fight! To whet your appetites I'll start by giving you a short recap of what we've been up to lately.

The Save Hosting Coalition's initial group of volunteers have been working on putting together a series of next steps. The Hosting industry has a number of threats, but none are more important or potentially dangerous than the Protect IP Act (PIPA) and its corresponding Congressional bill the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA), so much of our initial efforts have gone towards those. We have written a position paper on PIPA which we have attempted to circulate fairly widely. We have met with Senator Ron Wyden's office to discuss our coalition and its goals, and they have been advising us. Our next step is to release a letter to Congress that asks web hosting industry professionals to sign on to our position opposing PIPA and SOPA. Come to the Webinar. Learn about the letter.
