Pwebtech vs site5 vs weinbar vs VO vs VSNI

Hi,

We are now considering these providers for dedicated servers.

pwebtech
site5
VSNI
weinbar

we would like to consider ventures online too but
currently they dont seem to fulfill orders immediately.

Interestingly, pwebtech and vsni are the ones who have been responding to our sales enquiries.

Any suggestions/opinion are welcome.

There are also other providers whom we may consider
but the above list contains the main contenders.

Thanks in advance

Matra

well, it all depends on what you need along with the dedicated server....

For example:
- how much bandwith/data transfer do you think you will need?
- do you need some sort of control panel? If you do, which control panel? Plesk, CPanel3/WHM?

I know that weinbar would give you the cheapest bandwith for your money, but if you require some sort of control panel, then go with Pwebtech (for a free Plesk, unlimited domains) and Site5 (for a free CPanel3/WHM). Bandwith price on pwebtech/Site5 is about at least 2 times more expensice than Weinbar's but on the other hand weinbar now seems to be slow in responding pre-sales question/tech support.

And I have no experience with vsni, so I can't tell

cheers,

Regarding the additional requirements :-

Bandwidth should be preferably around 50 GB. Most of the sites we are hosting dont push much bandwidth. However, a few are intended for tradefairs and conventions and can shoot up for a short while.
Even though, I think 50 GB should be ok. Overages are not that much of a problem since most of these providers charge on actuals and anyway the people with the bigger sites are willing to pay well for the bandwidth.

We do need some kind of control panel.
Plesk would be adequate though having cpanel is even better. It all depends on pricing.

I have said this before to a few people, WeinBar's service is very good. They have one of the fastest connections I've ever experienced, BUT! If you need to contact their staff a lot for tech support or anything, then they are not the host you should choose. From own and others experiences, I've noticed that WeinBar can even take up to a week or longer to answer an email. I believe they are trying to fix this issue by hiring more staff, but we just have to wait and see when that happens.

Well, with 50GB, weinbar's lowest priced server would be $199/mo and you will get P3750/128MB/10GB HD. Including Plesk the you would need an additional $50-$100/mo. And with Cpanel3 it would cost you an additional $150/mo. So total you would be looking for $249-$349/mo. $249 setup fee.

For similar configuration (P3/700 instead of P3750), pwebtech's lowest priced server would be $225/mo. And you would get free plesk (unlimited domains, worth $100/mo at weinbar) and I believe $99/mo for Cpanel3 (cmiiw), hencen you would be looking for $225-$325/mo. $225 setup fee.

At site5 if you pay $300/mo you would get P3800/256MB/20GB and a free CPanel3. I am not sure how much Site5 will charge for Plesk. Setup would be $300.

So... you can see if you are going with CPanel3, then they are about the same price with Site5 giving you the cheapest deal (also better server, btw). If you need a Plesk, then you may want to think about pwebtech since they are the cheapest (also you would get plesk unlimited domains license, something you may want to consider if you are going to host more than 10 domains).

All I can say right now is that support-wise pwebtech/site5 might be faster than weinbar currently (though we all hope weinbar would be back up soon). Jay (pwebtech) and Matt (Site5) goes online frequently and you may get hold on them more frequently than Mich (weinbar). Network connetivity-wise, they are all great. My server at weinbar has around 99% uptime (over 1 month period) and my server at site5 has 100% uptime so far (over 2 weeks period).

Hope this helps your decision making a bit...

cheers,

about VSNI

Hi,

Although I read this forum on occasion I have never posted.

Just saw VSNI mentioned and wanted to pass this on. I have had a dedicated server with them for a little over 2 months. The only time It has been down was when I was testing some new scripts out last week that I wrote. One of the scripts caused the server to crash (4 AM). I called them up on their 800 line one of their techs had the server back up in less than 10 minutes. I have also contacted them via ICQ before also and there always seems to be someone on...

I have not worked with the other guys so no comment.

Laters...

Muir
