What's An Appropriate Host Package For My Company?
Right now I run two websites:
1. Ecommerce opencart sit
Host: Hostgator
Shared Hosting busines plan
Disk Usage 3991.42MB
Monthly Transfer 10429.74MB
so far no problems with them. I like their 24/7 online chat feature.
2. Informational site (non-ecommerce)
Host: Fused Networks
Shared Hosting (49.95, expensive?!)
Disk Space Usage 3080.57mb
Monthly Bandwidth Transfer 4745.05mb
Fused seems to be becoming unreliable. twice in the last month our email was down. They claim it was a DDOS attack on the server.
I was thinking of getting a VPS plan from Hostgator and moving the informational site over there. The VPS cost 39.95 per month, cheaper than Fused's shared plan.
Thoughts? Do I need VPS? I want something reliable of course and I think it's time to part ways with Fused Network.
Thanks!

A VPS wouldn't be bad to consolidate the plans and maintain better stability, but you can probably do ok with two shared accounts from a quality provider to save money. Hostgator VPS packages are fine, but a little on the expensive side IMO. I'm not someone who would recommend buying cheap hosting, but Hostgator hasn't updated their prices/packages in a very long time so you can often do better bang for the buck elsewhere as far as VPS is concerned.

If 1 works on cheap shared hosting package, 2 can as well. Since you are satisfied, why don't you dump fused and use existing hostgator account for both websites?
Just an idea.

Are you able to properly admin a VPS?
If not I would look at a managed VPS from the likes of Knownhost, Wiredtree, Futurehosting, etc.
Get a decent spec VPS and you could host both sites on it.
I agree with JaJae there are better value VPS's than what Hostgator offer.

You have experienced Hostgator shared and you are satisfy with it.
Don't you think it is better to move with that which you know than keep experimenting with other hosts?
Just a reflection!

Before I got started with hosting, I had a few personal sites, and I consolidated multiple shared packages into a reseller package. I would just recommend going with a shared package. I think the VPS would be overkill, and you don't really need to spend that much at this point. At the same time, without knowing how much CPU and memory your sites use, a reseller might not work for you.
Either way you choose, I would go with a company that offers both shared, reseller, and VPS. That way, you can stay with the same provider and upgrade or downgrade as necessary.

Why don't you get another shared account at Hostgator or any other host?

Ok, it seems that the consensus is that I should drop Fused and move the informational one to Hostgator.
I agree with some of you that VPS might not be necessary. My sites are really set it and forget with the occasional upgrade to opencart or module installation.
And I guess once both sites are on Hostgator I can upgrade later down the road.
Thanks all for the advice, really appreciate it.

Think the info site will work just fine under a shared account if you go with a company that has a good record of not overselling their servers past saturation. The price is insane for what you are currently paying, there are many excellent companies that have that for much cheaper.

HostGator's business account will let you host your additional site on the same account, without any added expense.

Certainly would reiterate sticking with Hostgator Stay with the beast you know, vs. the alternative.

These are the suggestion i would make.
1. Stick with Hostgator for your Ecommerce website. Your website is using normal web space and band width.
2. Transfer your Non Ecommerce website to your Hostgator account if you have atleast a Baby plan.
3. If you have a Hatchling plan with Hostgator (only one domain is allowed) and if are really fed up with Fused then go for alternative shared hosting. There is no need for VPS.

The VPS cost 39.95 per month, cheaper than Fused's shared plan.
|
Are you paying Fused $49.95/m for a shared hosting? I don't think so.

50 dollars a month for shared hosting on that site does seem to be a bit much, if HostGator has been good for you why not just use one shared account there?
