I agree that this is a sick thing to do, but for you to use it to rip capitalism is also sad. There are deviants found in any system.

tragic in this light, but the norm

I hope who handled the piece of the shuttle, if infact they did and were selling pieces of it gets radiation poisoning. That is how low I feel about them.
Furthermore, that is theft of federal property and should get somebody a lengthy term in prision if infact they had a piece of it in their possession.

I'm not ripping capitalism I'm just stating the obvious. We live in a free country and people are free to try to make money no matter how low it is (if it's legal of course). Although eBay did yank a couple of the auctions.

Actually, the coin in question had actually been posted to eBay on the 27 of January. He deals in hundreds of coins, and it was just sad luck

I don't think it's much different than Dick Cheney and his former company selling millions of dollars in supplies to Iraq, or the oil companies who support an Iraq war, or the aero and weapons industries making money off of war / strife. There's very little compassionate capatilism, it's make money where you can when you can.
I think it's tragic and sick, but, not unexpected.

I always have to shake my head at conversations like this. People profit from trageties. We all look at the little guy selling his coin on Ebay and say "shame on him!" but we never bat an eye at the big profitiers.
Look at the World Trade Center. Everyone was yelling and screaming about people selling pieces of it, or taking pictures of it and selling them. Everyone, even officials, claimed "No one should profit from tragedy."
Now.... I agree. No one should be going out and picking up pieces of the shuttle and auctioning them on Ebay.
However, people profit from tragedy. All the time. Back to the WTC. Do you think the people who cleaned up the site did it for free? Do you even think they did it as cost? What about the new builders? Do you think they'll make a profit? What about floods? When you hear on the news that the flood or earthquake or tornado cauded $100,000,000 in damage that includes profit for the people fixing the damage.
What about the news everyone was glued to yesterday? Did you see any commercials? Do you think the TV networks will use the viewership from yesterday to try to sell more ads?
This is just the way it is.

Ack, you guys are right. This is indeed rather disturbing... Sad to see that people can seek to profit from other's misery.
