can someone 'splain me Twitter ??

I'm not usually a bleeding edge kind of guy, but I don't think I'm a Luddite.

I like email, & shadow it to my smartphone. I even text my son on occasion.
I taught computer science, UI Design & Technology for Artists in college.
Hand-coded my (admittedly simple) websites.

I had a mySpace account. I have (but rarely use) a Facebook account.
I get a lot of my news online, some via Stewart & Colbert, & some via printed media.

But I just don't grok Twitter. Don't see the utility or the appeal.

I've asked my wife, & my reasonably astute teenager. They don't get it either.

Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks,

- Richard

If you are in business or news, Twitter is a must. If your not, just sign up to claim your name and thats it. Not really anything big unless your 1) Looking for the latest news for your news company or 2) Run a business and need to be more transparent with customers.

It's the uploader. Not You Tube's fault. You can view it by using a proxy or a VPN.

That video was pretty funny (now you've done it, you've summoned the fail whale!).

I don't know who Jeff Bullas is or what his credentials are,
but here's a pithy pull-quote that I agree with:
the issue for Twitter is that most people don’t “get it”... .
I guess I'm just like 'most people'.

I think it can be used for some social purposes too. Not like Facebook, but you can do more than business on it.

Twitter, to me, is like like Google Reader. It keeps me up to date with latest trends.

But if it sticks to 140 characters, it will be replaced by Google Plus or Facebook. Facebook is great except it is associated with casual nonsense chit-chat. Google Plus cater to professionals.

Twitter's simplicity is its strength. That 140 char limit is a good thing.

I use it for curated news, RSS (specific list for my feeds), and general enrichment by interacting with smart people.

I believe it has its own niche in social networking. Facebook was still huge when Twitter got big, so I don't think that's the case.
