Need Best Data Center in Canada

For a new project we need to lease dedicated (clustered) servers from within Canada only, and we need the best out there.

Best in carrier neutral network, round the clock fast knowledgeable support with great server grade hardware. If they are having facilities at multiple locations that will be a plus. 1000Mbps port on public and private LAN.

Data center should be able to do /24, ASN, router with BGP and GRE tunneling capability.

We have tested iWeb, they don't fit our needs.

    Any suggestions?

    Vinayak,

    What is your budget?
Also, out of curiosity why didn't iWeb fit your requirements? Is there any special requirements?

    Cheers,

    Mainly very slow support.

Budget is not a constraint, if they meet our needs, we will meet their price, it should be realistic though.

If you want high quality true carrier neutral:

    CANIX (Montreal)
    151 Front Street (Toronto)

AFAIK 151 Front is at capacity, so the only provider in there right now that is neutral is Equinix (formerly Switch and Data).

How much colo space are you looking for? do you have any transit providers in mind? This will factor in as well. I think Equinix doesn't rent out anything smaller than a full rack.

CANIX does half and quarter racks.

    Hope that helps.

We are not going to colocate, will lease/rent servers.

Don't have much idea regarding transit providers in that area, as long as they are good for North America.

Firstly, are you looking for dedicated hosting or co-location? If dedicated, how many servers are we talking about here, and what's your MRC? Do you mean carrier neutral facility rather than carrier neutral network?

Most dedicated hosting providers won't offer BGP and GRE. Usually, customers with these requirements buy co-location rather than dedicated. However, options do exist, but your total MRC will need to be worth a provider's while. The ASN I presume is your own, or do you just need an internal use ASN to announce to your upstream, and use your upstream's ASN on the Internet at large?

PEER 1 would fit the bill perfectly for co-location, and should be able to satisfy all your requirements. We use them for our co-location here in Vancouver as well as Seattle, and they are top notch. They also have multiple facilities in Toronto, on the 4th, 7th, and 8th floor of 151 Front and also their own large flagship facility in the suburbs. They also have a facility in Montreal.

However, they only offer managed hosting and ServerBeach in Canada out of the Toronto flagship facility. If you need managed or dedicated hosting, and you have a sufficiently large budget, talk to their sales and see if they may be able to accommodate your requirements. Another potential solution, if colo's really not an option, is to find a different dedicated hosting provider out of each of PEER 1's co-location facilities, as none that I know of currently have multiple Canadian locations. This way, you can have unified network connectivity but have your hardware operated by different parties. I'm sure if you talk to PEER 1's sales, they'll be able to refer you to some of their colo customers who are dedicated hosting providers.

Am I right to assume you required a GRE tunnel beacuse you want to run some type of anycast CDN type service?

Can you elaborate a bit more on this requirement? It's definitely not standard. Most providers will only do BGP if you're in the building through a cross connect. If you are only looking to lease servers and not colocate, then the servers would be on the network of the provider you choose. In this case is your requirement for the provider to announce an ASN and prefix that you already have?

To me CANIX in Montreal is probably the best out there.
A very good DC all in all.

    Canada Hosting

I highly recommend GloboTech Communications hosting in Canada, their network is amazing, and their support is top-notch, i don't think you will find a better data center (in my opinion). They also specialize in DDoS filtering so if your site gets hit with DDoS's these are the guys to host with.

typically speaking, if you lease servers from a provider, they will handle their own ASN, BGP, etc.. this has nothing to do with you. If you collocate your own hardware, have your own ARIN IP assignments, setup your own ASN, have your own routing equipment, etc - then you would be dealing with such things...

As for IP's - a /24 of IPv6 you would probably get from anyone without question. If you need a /24 of IPv4 IPs, you wont have an issue likely as long as they can be properly justified.

There is still space for lease directly from the building? Their website says otherwise...

I'm sure there's room from a current tenant. But usually whenever a suite becomes available there it doesn't last very long.
