No. I personally can't work without ssh access, or set up any of my sites without it. Many frameworks (see symfony) also rely on it heavily.
If you are disabling ssh for security reasons, you are doing it wrong and are beyond insecure

Most hosts have SSH disabled, but if you contact support and request for it, it will be activated. Disabling it is just a way of limiting its usage and mitigating and issues that may arise from improper usage.
