I've had a query from a potential client for a shopping cart.

Normally I'd use Joomla/Virtuemart or in some cases Prestashop but the guy seems to want to use what these two sites are using. Can anybody advise on what they're using or are they bespokes?

And also....can anybody advise on the legalities of what they're doing?
It's not an area I know anything about, and I've no interest in knowing anything about it either.....I just want to be sure I'm not crossing the line.

check out nopcommerce. i use them a lot and they are very good.

I take it neither of you read the question that the OP was asking? It's always good to have recommendations of cart software, but the question was a little more specific than that. In fact, this thread can probably be closed.
