MailFoundry Colo Recommendation?

I'm looking to colocate a MailFoundry box and wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I've never hosted one of these things before so I'm not completely sure what to expect. Obviously there's going to be significantly more inbound traffic than outbound, which is pretty much the opposite of a normal Web server. My primary concern is finding a place that is reliable and easy to get a hold of and work with when problems arise. That said, it's only a 1U box and I'm not expecting a huge amount of traffic so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

I guess any colo vendor can do. Do you have any preferred location? Which model of MF?

they really don't use that much inbound, well its just mainly text so its not that much. What we consider a lot and you probably are a bit different though. We have had ours for 3 years and Zero problems with it.

Hi. We've been doing this with RackSpace for a while. $300/mo. About to change that as we're consolidating, but it's been working.

On a related note, our MF box is about 5 years old and since we're moving it, we've been thinking of replacing it. It's been rock solid for all these years, and the filtering is good, but it's not absolute. We're still getting some leakage, even after many attempts of forwarding them on to Solinus.

My question is: Is MF still the best out there or since we "have it to do all over again" should we be looking in other directions?

Anyone that mentions a fish box will be banned from this thread.

Thanks for your time.

$300/m to colo a MF device is pretty high, IMHO.

We have a large amount of these things in production. To be honest, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't. The appliance is ok, but too much spam and other crap get's through the MailFoundry appliance. I'd go back to using Google Postini for inbound filtering.

I have been using MailFoundry's hosted service and I have been completely happy with it. Some spam gets through but it's like 5 a day instead of 500. Not a single malicious attachment and I've never had a false positive that I've been aware of (I kept track for a while then gave up as it's too time consuming). Is a dedicated MF box going to perform differently than their hosted service?

$300 is a lot to colo that box.

I would send it into Nexcess.net for $49.95. I don't have to worry about power use, they give me 1TB of bandwidth and they have staff on site 24x7 if I need them.

Should I mention they have a beautiful data center also?

I agree that it's high, which makes your 2nd comment really interesting.

I'm seeing Postini @ $1/month/user which puts us in the $2,500/month range whereas that's about the cost of a MF box with a year of support, call it 2 month's worth.

Seeing how we've gotten 5 years out of this box, that's $5,000 vs. $150,000. I would also agree that my Google Apps filtering is better than the Mailfoundry box, but that's also a significant difference in price.

Definitely high, checkout the colocation offer section for some great deals... especially for 1 box, you shouldn't have to pay $300/m.

Not sure about your geographic area. United layer is good us option. DataCentersCanada.com is great in Canada. I would also talk to Peer1.

Cisco Ironport appliances are also a great solution and end up be much less expensive than Google Apps for larger orgs.
