Opinion Required on Choosing a Dedicated Server for Reselling

Hello,

I have around 700 sites on my reseller accounts, and I would like to shift them to a dedicated server. Sites are all based in asp.net / windows (all sites are low to medium level, most of the sites have less than 300 visitors a day).

So, setting everything aside, what is the best option between:
===
Intel Xeon 3450 (Quad Core)
4 GB DDR3 Memory
From host gator
===
OR
===
Intel 2x Xeon E5520 2.26GHz
4 GB Memory
From mocha host
===
i.e. which will be efficiently handle all the accounts between these two options?

Regards,
Eric

Is the memory MochaHost are offering DDR3 also? DDR3 is better.

Well if you are just comparing hardware, I believe the 3450 will outperform the E5520, however there are other factors to also consider, such as the Datacenter where the server is going to be hosted in. HG and Mochahost are more or less popular for their shared web hosting, have you thought about looking into a provider that specializes in dedicated services? Not only might you get better performance, but you might also get a little more bang for your buck.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yes I am open for any recommendation for a US or UK based data center. I just have following requirements:

> Managed Support
> Windows Server 2008 R2
> Sql Server 2008
> Above all the server should be able to adequately manage 800 - 1000 small to mid range asp.net / sql server sites.
> Space / bandwidth is not an issue.

And combined with all the other requirements like webmail, control panel the complete solution should be in range of USD 150 to USD 250.

My main concern is if the server I buy will be able to manage this number of sites or not, as I don't have experience with dedicated servers before so am afraid of downtimes later when the server is not able to manage.

Regards,

You should strongly consider high amount of memory on this box since 700-800 websites on single server with SQL Server is going to need lot of RAM. Also, make sure that you have RAID 10 disk array.
