Comparing VPS providers - Futurehosting BPC useful?

    Hi Folks,

I was comparing a few VPS providers and i see that FutureHosting provides something called Business Continuance Protection where you're protected against bandwidth overage fees due to a DDOS attack etc.

Is this a useful feature to have?

What are the chances of something like this happening?

Do other reputed providers like WiredTree, Servint provide a similar type of service in such a case as i don't see anything like this mentioned on their sites?

I see that WiredTree mentions a lot about security aspects and sever hardening on their site including DDos prevention and Future Hosting has a backup service... Servint has backups and server hardening as well...so each one has their strong point.

So considering that all the providers above do provide a high level of security and backups do you think a feature like Business Continuance Protection(BPC) has any special advantages?

One Thing i find missing among all of them is Chat support for technical queries 24/7. It would have really suited me.

So what do you people think about BPC and how do you compare or rate the above providers on the mentioned metrics?

I'd say it depends on what kind of content your site has. If you're running the kind of site that would attract a DDOS attack (i.e. warez, porn, hacking, etc) then maybe you need it. If you're running a couple low to mid size traffic site with fairly mainstream pop culture or business content, you may never see a DDOS in your lifetime.

I've been adminstrating small scale linux servers for 10 years and never experienced a DDOS. Dictionary brute force attack, exploited security holes in running old software, users trying to misuse sudo, php code insertion issues with client scripts, etc, I've seen many times. DDOS, never.

Nothing like warez, porn or hacking but i was just thinking about being proactive and taking precaution before something like this ever happened.
