VPS, WHM, initial setup

Hi Guys,

I've worked with many hosting accounts, but have never been the one that set everything up.
I am using CentOS + WHM.

The first domain that I want to host, let's pretend is Frodo.com.
I created the VPS under Frodo.com, and the nameservers are ns1.frodo.com, ns2.frodo.com.
In WHM I created a site for frodo.com.
My issue now is that if I go to the domain frodo.com in godaddy, and point it to ns1.frodo.com and ns2.frodo.com, I feel like that is an infinite loop.

I feel as if I set things up incorrectly, and need two domains.
Host WHM on Gandalf.com, with nameservers ns1.gandalf.com, ns2.gandalf.com.
Then I create frodo.com, and point it to ns1.gandalf.com, etc.

Is that correct? Must I start over?
If it is correct, I still have the problem of what I point gandalf.com to. Godaddy won't let me point it to the IP of my server (ex: ns1.100.1.100.1), so I don't understand how the initial configuration is done.
Any help would be appreciated!

Have you opened a ticket with Tech Support? They should be able to set it all up for you, no problem.

Thanks Scott,
Unfortunately, I don't have much support.
I know it doesn't sound like it, but I'm pretty familiar with everything except for this initial configuration with the chicken and egg.
Somehow I feel I have to have one of my domains point to an IP address.

Have you registered your name servers ns1.xx and ns2.xx with Godaddy?

Have you tried looking through the Cpanel docs?

http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/vie...tation/WebHome

And like Brian stated, you need to register your nameservers via godaddy make sure to point them to the correct IP's and give it up to 48 hours to fully propagate.

That may be just a part. You are going to plug in the correct IPs given to you by your host, right?

Maybe this can help you :

You need to create name server A record in the registra. In registrar, they call child name server, for example:

ns1.domain.com 10.5.5.10
ns2.domain.com 10.5.5.11

Once the “child name server” A records have been created, then change the domain NS at the registra side to use the NS:

ns1.domain.com
ns2.domain.com

At the server side, create the domain zone, and point to NS and create the name server A records as well:

domain.com NS ns1.domain.com
domain.com NS ns2.domain.com
ns1.domain.com A 10.5.5.10
ns2.domain.com A 10.5.5.11

Good luck !

Thanks everybody with the responses so far, things make sense now.

My last question is this.
If I register my ns1.example.com to my IP, and point example.com to ns1.com, if I set up a site in WHM for example.com, (in theory) will it work? Or is there a different way to set up the site for primary domain?

It should be like this

vps.example.com - 111.111.111.110
ns1.example.com - 111.111.111.110
ns2.example.com - 111.111.111.111

Just to point out my typo, I meant:
  1. Register ns1.example.com to my ip address
  2. Create site through WHM for example.com
  3. Point example.com to ns1.example.com
== Success?
