    Which email to set up?

I just signed up with Linode and have a web server up and running but I don't have any email program installed. SHould I set up Postfix? Citadel? Zimbra?

    postfix+dovecot+dspam+hastymail2

Very effective spam detection, SASL auth SMTP, and SSL IMAP, with a lightweight web interface.

I prefer Postfix over all other MTAs.

But aren't you using a hosting control panel? Usually the hosting control panel takes care of installing and configuring the MTA.

That's very unlikely. But either way, please define 'email program'.

Postfix is an MTA. Citadel en Zimbra are groupware/collaboration suites and require extensive knowledge to make them run alongside other services like Apache.

If you're looking for an MTA, I'd go with whatever your distribution comes with by default. If you're interested in comparing MTAs, this article may be useful: http://shearer.org/MTA_Comparison

I use CentOS, which comes with sendmail by default. However, when Kloxo is installed the sendmail application is replaced with qmail.

I get by with qmail but I don't like it. The thing is that qmail hasn't had a new release since the late 1990s, and there are a lot of MTA capabilities that we use today that weren't thought of back then. There are a few packages that make life with qmail a lot easier, qmail-toaster for example, but it's still clumsy to do things like smtp authentication or smtp-after-pop.

Postfix is a much new application, and there is an active development community keeping its features current. That makes Postfix a lot easier to work with. There is a movement underfoot to put pressure on Kloxo developers to start using Postfix instead of qmail. I say the sooner the better.

On my CentOS, I am using Postfix. There is a big developer movement toward this app which is one of the reasons I use it. The features are up to date and everything is where you'd expect it.

Postfix is the better choice in your list. But Google apps is a pretty good option if you don't want more than 10 users.

So an MTA is better than groupware? Funny. By the way, Zimbra uses Postfix.
