Need North East VPS Windows Hosting Recommendation

    Hello,

Currently with KnownHost, looking to branch out and get a Windows VPS. Seems it's a little harder to find a reputable Windows VPS host, and cost-effective as compared to Linux. Here's what I'm looking for at an absolute minimum:

Platform: Hyper-V, not very interested in Xen/Virtuozzo
    Memory: 2GB+.
    HD: 40GB+, preferably RAID 10
    OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard x64
Bandwidth: 1.5-2TB+, could live with a little less but liking the room to grow
    Managed: Self-managed

Location: Chicago, Scranton, Philadelphia, New Jersey locations, New York, Washington DC, anywhere within that area should be fine.

    Budget: $55/mo.

Any good suggestions? Support is important, but I'm looking to manage this myself so don't think I'm going to need much hand-holding.

    Thanks!

This is one of the easier ones to answer because you have a sensible budget

Take a look at NFO: http://www.nfoservers.com/order-virt...ted-server.php

They started out as a GSP but their VPSs are rock solid and support (although unmanaged) is superb. And they're available in New York.

Yes, budget is reasonable, you might want to check in the offer section aswell

Your budget is pretty good with exception of bandwidth requirement (which I believe you can do away with little less). You may be able to get this amount of b/w with a budget provider.

    Good luck!

Appreciate the suggestions. $55 is about my max, but less is always better. NFO is $50 and has a good offering. Didn't know they had virtual servers, had a game server from them several years ago and was happy. Not Hyper-V though, and my understanding (though I'll admit I don't have the full technical backing to really call out what's better than the other), is that Hyper-V is better for Windows, so I was definitely siding with that. I checked the offers section already and couldn't find something that fully fit everything. I was already on Softsys's site and see they have all requirements except bandwidth. I probably don't even need more than 400GB of bandwidth, but enough sites seem to offer more I just feel like I wouldn't be getting as much value... but I don't want to go with a host that sacrifices quality by any means either. Guess everyone's in the same boat in regards to that, but yeah... if anyone else has any suggestions please let me know. Haven't made a decision yet.

I had a vps with automatedvps until we migrated to linux.

    //
    • VPS Server Specs
    • 1x 3.0-3.41 Ghz CPU (Intel Xeon)
    • 2 GB ECC Dynamic RAM (Guaranteed Allocation)
    • 50 GB HDD RAID 10
    • 500 GB Bandwidth (on 1 Gbps Tier 1 ISP mix)
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
    $30 per month.

Decent server , good service - Joe is a good guy.
They have servers in New york/New Jersey/Chicago and Northern Florida.
As for bandwidth you can probably add it for cheap.

Just be aware softsys is trying to sell you his hosting (by replying to your thread with his sig showing).

I just checked one of ours to make sure I hadn't pointed you in the wrong direction...
