    CentOS 6 on Host Nodes

We are about to add a few more E3 VPS nodes and looking to use CentOS 6 as the host node OS.

Are there any known issues with OpenVZ, SolusVM, or running older version OS's ?

I had a test node with an E3-1230 running CentOS 6, OpenVZ and SolusVM that I finally had to revert back to CentOS 5 as it would experience a CPU lockup about every 20-24 hours and need a cold reboot. I currently have 36 hours of uptime on this box now, it was rebooted yesterday morning for other reasons, but has not crashed since downgrading back to CentOS 5

I have one E5620 with CentOS 6 and solusvm. Been testing it for the last few days. No issues as of yet. No vps on it. I think I will wait until CentOS 6.1 before I use it on a production node.

I was ok with a few VPS on it, but after putting it under load, it was all downhill.

Tried it, it will kpanic on vzmigrate every time.

Had a random CPU soft lock error over and over on a node with it as well.

It's simply not ready for production, however the 2.6.32 kernel is FAR faster than 2.6.18 while it is working.

I had the random CPU lockups as well. The server would be fine for a few days, then randomly lock up. This was about 2 weeks ago (moved back to centos5 since then). The RHEL6 branch was beta at the time, and today has gone to stable so it may be time to test it out again.

Just today the RHEL6 based openvz kernel was declared stable and is recommended for new installs. But i am not brave enough to put users on it yet. If anyone decides to test it please share your experience.

As others have reported, we also experienced issues with CentOS 6. We have 3 host nodes that are CentOS 6, and have diverted back to 5.6.

E3's? I'm thinking this might have been a bug with the E3 being the only effected CPU

Well looks like we will just keep them on CentOS5.

CentOS6 would be nice to have because of vswap and better performance, but stability is #1 on the list.

    Thanks to everyone that replied

Just tried on an E3 and have the same issue as the rest with cpu lock error. No issues with E5620. Just to be safe I think I will stay with 5,x at least until 6.1 comes out.

We gave it a try last week and the stability was not good enough to use it in production. Maybe once the stability becomes better we will give it another go.

There were significant bugs with 042stab33.1m but 042stab35.1 appears to be ok. We're still monitoring ours to be sure.

Has anyone tried 5.7? I assume it would just be closer to 5.6 than a 6.0 release, but never hurts to get feedback

EL5.7 has no issues I've seen, about 23 hours into a test with EL6.1 running 2.6.32-042stab037.1 under good load, have fingers crossed.
