    Budget VPS

    Hi All,

I tried out DirectSpace and Rockstar VPS with mixed feelings and I look for (maybe better) other providers.
Has anyone here a fine experience with a different budget vps provider?
    Thank you.

There is a sentence saying "you get what you pay for".

But really, what is your budget and do you have any specific need (OS, location, control panel, management, etc)?

What specs are you looking for? And what do you call a good price?

If you want realistic performance reviews and a budget VPS check out http://96mb.com and http://lowendbox.com you should find a host on one of those sites that meets your needs, without specs and budget thats about the best advice I can give

well it depends on what you are looking for. And the statement "you get what you pay for" isn't necessarily true every time. You will find many good providers who have put in cost cutting measures to ensure the quality status high while the price is low. Check out offers section

    I'd agree with this.

People all too often dismiss a host because they seem 'too good to be true' when in fact, their business/pricing model may very well make them very good and very true!

I'd hold off on curvehost, i've heard nothing but complaints about them in an IRC channel I follow where people simply don't get setup for weeks at a time or downtimes go unexplained.

The LowendBox community do pretty well at separating the good from the bad.

    Take a look at BurstNET.

When searching this forum for complaints about BurstNET, take a close look into the situation. Most negative reviews of BurstNET stem from problems on the client end.

I've been with BurstNET for almost 3 months now, with two 512 MB VPS accounts ($6 each). I'm very happy with the performance, uptime, and the speed of support.

With any budget VPS host, make sure you have realistic expectations. You are not going to get dedicated server performance out of a $6 VPS. But properly configured and optimized, you'd be surprised how much traffic a 512 MB VPS can handle.

You also really need to know what you are doing if you decide to go with an unmanaged VPS. Unless you have extensive experience as a sysadmin, or are willing to put in a lot of hours learning the ropes, an unmanaged VPS is not a good choice.

I was considering that one. But I don't require support usually therefore it's one of the least things I care for. But setup time is a one time delay anyway, but if it's a general behavior of certain host here comes the pain Thanks for the heads up.

My top budget VPS picks are:
    1) AlienVPS
    2) BuyVM
    3) BurstNET

I own or have owned servers with all of them, and am quite happy.
AlienVPS is fairly new, with prices slightly higher than burstnet, with datacenters in NY and Las Vegas. They offer OpenVZ, Xen, and KVM plans all with competitive pricing. No signs of overselling, good performance, good support.

BuyVM is an OpenVZ provider, with stellar performance and pricing. West Coast only though, and it's very hard to land a VPS with them, they're almost always out of stock (they definitely don't oversell)!

BurstNET, well you've probably heard enough of them. There are mixed review of them here around the forum, but a clear majority are positive. You will end up having a couple blips along the way with them, but it's mostly smooth sailing, and any problems get resolved no problem. They have many datacenters across the nation too.

    Hope this helps you out!

Try KnownHost. While not straight budget, per se, they're solid so far with me.
