Supermicro CSE-743TQ-865B-SQ 'Power Failure'

Anyone have experience with this chassis? I am using it for a workstation machine and every now and then the fan speeds go to full speed and the Power Failure Indicator light goes on on the front of the chassis. The indicator light marked 8 on page 16 (3-2) on this PDF file:

http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/ch...ower/SC743.pdf

Here is superodoctor output when the issue happens:

What I don't quite get is this chassis only has a single PSU so I don't see how its a PSU failure when the machine is still churning along with no problem. Or is it a heat issue (PSU overheating) or something else.

I figured this would be a good place to ask as I know many people are familiar with supermicro chassis on this forum.

Could be thermal or it also sounds like the PSU is on its way out.

I am thinking its thermal because the air coming out of the PSU is really hot. The really loud noise (fan) is the PSU fan (the other fans are staying normal speed).

It would kind of suck if the PSU is on its way out as the chassis is like barely a month old.

I recently had a similar problem, but not with a Supermicro, and replacing the PSU fixed it. I also thought it was a heatsink issue, but luckily it was an easy fix.

It looks like the power supply might be overheating, or overloaded.

Try reducing the system loading (remove some memories, hard drives, GPU etc) and see if the issue goes away. If so, that would mean the system power budget is not enough.

The power supply is rated at 865W, which is enough power for about two 80W range CPU, and 2 double width GPU cards. If the system is using two 120W+ CPU, and 2 double width GPU, that will probably overload the power supply. Posting the system configuration would help to debug the issue...

Please observe if there is any object/cable obstructing the power supply fan rotation as well.

There is also a red LED at the back of the power supply (near AC cord), that LED will tell the user if the power supply is overheating or having cooling issue. It will also make a beeping noise when it does. If that LED on the power supply is not blinking when the problem occur, that would mean the fan spinning up is not the power supply fan, maybe that is coming from the chassis fan.
