Web hosting with 10mbps unmetered bandwidth?
Hi,
I'm looking for a web hosting provider with unmetered bandwidth and 20GB diskspace. Most providers offer "unlimited" traffic and diskspace, but we all know that's not true
Can anyone suggest a web hosting company that can offer me something like (im not interested in a dedicated server):
- cPanel.
- 10mbps unmetered bandwidth (fixed, no overcharge).
- 20GB diskspace.
- php, mysql etc.
/ Kenneth

Well you will need to consider a dedicated servers if you plan to come anywhere close to that amount of bandwidth.

Well technically umetered bandwidth is the same thing as unlimited bandwidth, the only difference is terminology. In otherwords, either way you are going to run into the same types of limits you would find with any other web host, the only difference between unmetered and unlimited is one is being a little more honest with the terminology that the other.
PS. Do you really need 20GB of diskspace?

If this for a current site? If so, how much bandwidth are you currently consuming? Also, what type of website is this?

Clients transfer backups of their websites to this server/website, I then transfer received backups to S3 for permanent storage.

OP's not asking for unlimited bandwidth, they are asking for 10Mbps connection unmetered meaning they get the full 10Mbps. That is very reasonable, but not on a shared environment just due to the nature of how shared works. You can get that through several VPS providers and have them manage it if you are not comfortable managing the server yourself.

Which is about 3TB a month, using 10 Mbps constantly.
It would need to be at least a VPS, as most shared hosts don't let you use it for backups / file transfer, but only let you use your 20GB space to store files that will be served up as a website.
It may be that a VPS that gives you 4 TB bandwidth monthly (such as KnownHost's VS5 package) would do, but it would likely come on a 100Mbps or 1Gbps connection, meaning you'd have to implement your own throttling to make sure you stay within your limit.

I am sure that if he really wanted, the host would limit his port speed. I agree with the idea of a VPS. KnownHost is fully managed, though. You should look into an un-managed solution.

I'm intrigued you are so sure that he should have an unmanaged solution. Nothing the OP has said so far has indicated either that he is conversant enough with server management to want to save the money and go unmanaged, or that he is sufficiently unsure that he wants the help and doesn't mind paying for it.
What made you say that?

Nothing he has said has indicated that he cannot manage it himself. Purchasing an un-managed VPS and $10 cPanel license will most likely be cheaper than purchasing a fully managed cPanel server. Of course, it is his choice. Neither I nor you can tell him which solution to pick without knowing his Linux background.

I'm a bit confused, how do your clients transfer their back-ups through your website? Currently do you have some type of reseller account where users are running back-ups within cpanel, which you then pull from the shared server and back-up somewhere else?
