the best is use Xen or KVM for OpenVPN, don't use OpenVZ, it don't support good.

@tanphe
That's the virtualizing software the host uses for the VPS right? Would you know the minimum specs required to run OpenVPN smoothly for a single connection?
Thanks

@hybridized: a single connection, I think you only need a VPS with 256MB RAM - 512MB RAM, Xen or KVM virtualization

So if I were to signup for a Village of Town plan by VPSVille, OpenVPN would not work properly with that? Considering OpenVPN would be the only thing installed on the VPS and nothing else.

Do you have to go with VPSVille? If not, you can find a lot of quality vps servers and configure vpn by yourself.

So what are you saying none of the hosts I linked have quality servers?
I need a Toronto based server so those were the only good hosts I could find.

Because that would be the cheapest Toronto based VPS I would get anyways even if nothing was installed on it.
Kindly link me to a cheaper option if you can

Just for VPN, it really does not matter, any of the specs above would work, I think the only differences it would make is how good the services/support would be in this case, try sending them some pre-sales ticket, asking questions like do they enable tun/tap if they are OpenVZ and/or how much it would cost for additional bandwidth, and see how knowledgeable/fast support is.

Well the thing is I am leaning towards the Town package by http://www.vpsville.ca/vpn-vps just because it has OpenVPN pre-installed and configured and the lazy bum I am it would be perfect for me to just start using it after they set it up.
However, at the back of my head something's bothering me that if I am going to pay $15/month for a VPS just for OpenVPN can I get a better package for the same cost or less from one of the other hosts mentioned in my first post and then install OpenVPN myself. It shouldn't be that hard now now would it?
The thing is I am new to this VPS stuff so I don't know as well as the more experienced users here would so that's why I need your help in getting the best package for that cost.
Thanks

VPN will work with OpenVZ too if you know how to configure it. Also. please make sure to ask for the hosting provider to enable the TUN/TAP interface for you, and at the end OpenVZ VPS is much cheaper that KVM VPS.
p.s. we do not use OpenVZ for our virtualization so I'm not making any commercial here!

I'd probably go with Carat. Lots of bandwidth and one of the cheaper ones. It'd only take 5-10 minutes to install OpenVZ, so i'd spend the time and pocket the savings.
