Multiple Domain host fast responses in UK
Hi
I currently host my main .com website at one.com This is a basic wordpress site with a photo gallery and is around 600MB in size.
I have 3 .co.uk addresses that also point to this main website/
I then have another .com website at one.com and again 2 more .co.uk addresses that point to this.
All .co.uk addresses are held at oneandone.co.uk
I'm interested in consolidating my host/domain providers, paying one monthly/yearly fee and also move my host back to the UK as one.com seem slow to me.
Can you advise if
(1) the hosts that offer multiple domain hosting (e.g. 123-reg, media temple) allow you to have all the domains on one account?
(2) Is there a separate charge for each domain that I would transfer in? or is it all covered in the monthly fee?
(3) recommend any UK host for this purpose? I've read good and bad about 123-reg and Media temple are US based, so would the sites run slower from there?
Thanks, DJ

I have used the following UK hosts:-
UK2.net
Ukhost4u.com
Heartinternet.com
I have never had any problems with these hosts and all support multiple domains.(Depending on the package)
I also use Heartinternet.com to host some of my domains and they are very good and easy to use.
Good Luck with your search!

I use NetHosted.co.uk and have done for some years now. Severs and staff in the UK. They are not the cheapest, but support is great and great uptime.
As for the domain, you have a choice you can update your nameservers and leave it where it is, should be free, or you can transfer the domains to the new host, which depends on there charges.
My wordpress blog on nethosted server: http://www.cbg.me.uk the only thing that maybe slow on my site, is my XBox 360 gamercard that is hosted by someone else.

You're looking for hosts that allow "add-on domains". Some hosts allow you to have an unlimited number of them, others ration it. But other than needing more domains than a hosting package allowed, there would be no charge for running more than one domain off the same hosting package.
One way to get around a limit on the number of add-on domains is to see if a web host also allows you to have "parked domains". In the cPanel world, an add-on domain is for a separate site. A parked domain is where you just want a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) domain name that points to the same website as your main domain. In your case, you could get away with: (i) your main domain being your main .com site; (ii) the 3 .co.uk addresses that point to that site being parked domains; (iii) the second .com site, and the 2 .co.uk addresses that point to it would have to be add-on domains. So you are looking for a host that will give you at least 3 add-on domains (for iii above) and 3 parked domains (for ii above).
I would leave your domains registered with 1and1 (but I wouldn't host with them!). As long as they allow you to change the nameservers and don't charge for it, it's generally best to use one company to register domains and a different one for hosting. (Personally, I use domainmonster for domain registration in the UK).
I have only used one UK-based host, but they asked you to sing up for a different package for each domain. Otherwise I was happy with them, but as the number of domains I hosted went up it got too expensive. I then moved to USA-based hosting, and found that the reliability and performance of the servers was more a factor than whether those servers were based in the UK or the US.

Just saw this post and would love to help answer any other questions that you may have.
1. You can host any domains here, but we limit the registration of certain TLDs.
2. If you'd like to transfer registration to us, it would be $12 for each domain. That domain would be covered for a full year once transferred.
3. We have data centers in California (shared service) and Virginia. We also provide a ProCDN to help with caching your data all over the world, instead of just the USA. Finally, we also have quite a large number of customers from the UK
WordPress is something that we do pretty well (easy 1-click installer), and we should be able to have no problem with your current specs. Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

I have used most the hosts named in this thread and none of them comes close to vidahost.com for speed or support. I have run ten wordpress sites on their monthly plan for about £20 a month but I would think their £17 a year job would do the same. I have one of those which is running two WP & directories sites and getting about 8,000 uniques per month.

£240/year vs £17/year. I doubt it. You get what you pay for.

What do you pay for with £240 ? server space, more domains etc but the server your site sies on may even be a lower spec then a £17 a year plan (you also get a free domain btw).
http://www.alternativestoebay.com runs on such a plan. Has a directory and a very large blog with the last 2 year stats being 81,776 Visits - £17 a year with free domain fact. The are other sites also on the space and it's shared hosting. I call that value for money.
