500GB Seagate Momentus XT vs 64GB SSD: Thoughts?

I'm preparing my sexy MacBook Pro for Mac OS X Lion by purchasing a brand new storage device. The default 320GB Hard Drive is too slow (5200RPM).

I'm deciding between two different storage drives:
500GB Seagate Momentus XT - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=22-148-591

64GB OCZ Agility 3 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227725

As you can see, they're the same price ($100), but are completely different in terms of specs.

Now, I'm kinda leaning towards the 64GB SSD because I'm only using 40GB of disk space on my Snow leopard installation (with Photoshop and xcode), but I believe I may face problems in the future with 64GB of storage on Lion.

The 64GB SSD will, of course, be faster than the 500GB Seagate drive, but have much less storage.

What would you choose? I'd love to hear as many opinions as I can!

No responses... I did see over 500 reviews for the XT at Newegg's site:

I personally would get the SSD AND a cheap storage drive to backup the SSD and keep extra files that do not really need much in terms of speed. I have about 40Gb in Photoshop files so that single SSD storage would be too little for me.

I would take the 5200 RPM drive that you already have or a smaller drive and store things like PSD's family images etc on it. I know the macbook pro can have two drives but since I have not touched one in awhile I do not remember if it causes any issues. The hybrid drives are nice but I think they need more work before they become truly worth it, some drives have issues with random slow downs and the drives tend to spin up and down way more then a hard drive should just making their life span lower then they should be.

I believe to have two drives you need to take out your DVD/CD drive.

Currently, I'm using 46GB of hard drive space. This is with Photoshop, Xcode, and all updates on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Do people still use optical drives? I haven't had to use one in over a year.

Buy neither, save money to get an OWC SSD from macsales.com

They are fast, and macsales/OWC is a mac company, great support etc.

Frequently accessed files is cached in a few GBs of ssd to improve performance.

I don't know about you, but having only 64GB of storage is a little risky, you would eat that up very quickly as far as I would think, although I'm not one to talk, seeing as I have 400+GB of HD video capture scratch alone sitting on my desktop computer, and hundreds of gigs of other stuff.

Even on the laptop I'm trying this on, I have 70+GB of stuff, and I try to keep it clean :\.

Probably it will continue to run like a normal harddrive because the original data will still be on it but with degraded performance.

the ssd will last for around one year. So expect to see degraded performance in a year.

Better buy stand alone ssd as swap drives. And replace it when it fails. The primary disk drives can last for much longer and store all the files.

regularly TRIMming it (if youre not running win 7) will delay degradation.

and, imaging the drive to a normal hd, totally wiping the write (secure erase) and formatting it and reimaging the drive back will restore performance.

corsair advises against using ssds as swap, saying it speedily shortens ssd lifetime.
