Purchased IP Board

Ok, I have purchased IP Board and am looking for a hosting company. It will be a forum. Can anyone recommend a good hosting company. I have done some searched on here but still can't decide. thought IPAGE would be good as all the reviews on the net were good but then many on here said no,

Thanks very much.

If you are starting a new forum, any GOOD shared host will work fine for you. If your forum is well established and you are averaging more than about 40 concurrent users, you should opt for semi-managed or a VPS. ("concurrent users" means people on the forum at the same time; as an example, I have a forum with 1700+ members, and it averages between 30 - 40 concurrent users.)

We can only recommend hosts we have personally used, and hosts cannot recommend themselves. I have a VPS at MDDHosting.com and like it very much, and can recommend them from the standpoint of service and support. I run IP Board on my VPS, and Mike runs it for the support forum at MDDHosting.com, so they would be a good choice for a shared host. You can start with the basic hosting plan there and be in good hands.

There are many shared hosts that can host IPBoard, and do a great job of it. As far as technical specs, ask the host how much memory they allow PHP; I think IPBoard requires at least 32MB or 64MB (I have my server set for 128MB and PHP is flawless at that level).

There is a variety of great places for you out there. Is there any particular control panel you like?

I see, well in that case I think any shared web hosting account on a non-overloaded server will do you justice. So for something like this I would recommend going with a provider that is offering realistic web hosting plans (ex: not claiming to offer unlimited diskspace).

Just do a search on google for "my account got suspended for using to many resources", will save you some headaches down the road.

I googled that verbatim in quotes and all I got was an x10hosting result.. probably should give something less specific..

40 concurrent users at once seems awfully low...thats not a lot..what happens when it gets over that

40 concurrent is not as easy to accomplish as it sounds.. but at that point you'd need to upgrade to a virtual private server or your own entire server.

Woops, forgot to include two crucial keywords "my web hosting account got suspended for using to many resources"

Any web host will run IPB so you don't consider it separately

Any type of hosting can run IPB. If your forum is new, start out with a shared hosting. As your forum gets bigger, you can upgrade to a VPS and then to a dedicated server.
