Traffic Has Been Hit Badly After Moving To VPS
Hi,
I shifted to knownhost VPS 2 days back and since then traffic has been hit badly. I know change in nameserver does hit traffic but mine has reduced almost by 60%!
What do you think about it? Do I need to make any changes to server configuration?
I have a wordpress based blog.

No valid reason for that except propagation delays....have you double checked all your DNS is correct? Try HERE!

I have double checked the dns. Everything is in order.
Do you have any idea as to when will traffic return to normal?

Usually ip propagation would be done in max 72hours...
Maybe you can check it using just-dnslookup.com

http://www.whatsmydns.net/
shows propagation around the world. Maybe half of it is not yet aware of your DNS change...

It's nothing to do with your hosting as far as I can see! I've moved around a bit over the last 13 years and stats have always remained pretty constant.

Maybe you are right but it isn't working for me. And by 'moving back to shared hosting' I meant that this kind of traffic (monthly 210000 uv's) was handled quite well by my previous host!

This could mean some traffic is still going to your old hosting account and it's not 100% thru us yet. DNS doesn't propagate all at once around the world. So some parts of the world may not be 100% updated yet. This is the only real explanation I can think of unless your VPS is crashing which you didn't say was the case which means "the VPS can handle your traffic thus far".

Well, that depends. Some folks get their site disabled for a time if they exceed resource limitations.
Hosting is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

Sounds like you could use a dedicated server instead.

I had the same issue a while back. Moved from a shared reseller account to a VPS and my traffic dropped around 40% (if I remember correctly). After 4 days most of my traffic came back though not like it was before the move but within 90% of what it was.
I cannot explain it but it did occur. The thing is I still had access to my reseller account and during the 4 days I experienced a decline in traffic on my VPS, my reseller account was not getting any traffic at all.

I think Google leaves out the sites or something like that during DNS propagation. This is the same trend happening with my blog. It's been 3 days and traffic has been falling, marginally though. I just hope it returns to normal.
Also, did you make any particular changes to your vps (am assuming your site is based on wordpress)?

This occurred a few months ago I have numerous sites (personal) some are PHP forums, HTML and two are Wordpress sites. They all dropped about the same percentage. None of my customers have complained.
I made no particular changes at that time except I no longer had Fantastico from the reseller and I added Softiculous. A month later I installed a Firewall.
Also, I just recently had a 1.5-2 day downtime on my VPS and my traffic came back immediately.
