    Recommended switch for a rack.

Looking for suggestions on a switch for a rack, rack would use around 200-400mbps max I'm guessing maybe a little bit more.

Would like to know what everyone here would recommend and for what reason.

Thank you very much in advance.
    Jake.

Depends on what your budget is and whether you need a managed or un-managed switch - it boils down to what network interconnected hardware you want to use and how much control and monitoring you require.
You can go for mainstream products from popular brands such as Cisco, Dell or HP - again, if your DC has a preferred supplier, you might also want to check with the engineering department for recommendations - because, IF you want them to attend to emergencies, then you'd rather have equipment which they are familiar with, and use on a daily basis too!

+1 for the onsite techs being familiar with the hardware - thats always a big plus if you got gear located more then 30 mins away.

    HP2824 (24 ports) or HP2848 (48 ports) is a good option for a managed 1Gbps switch

It should just be used for connecting our servers together in our rack.
At the moment we have a older Cisco 2948 in one of our 1/2 cab's.

Do you need 1Gbps or 100Mbps edge ports?

I'm sure 100Mbps edge ports would be alright, can't go wrong with something higher as well though.
Guess it really depends on how much extra it would cost and if we would use it.

Check out the HP Procurve 2626. I'm sure you can find one for $100. Plus they have lifetime warranties and are managed devices. All of our racks feature these switches and have been flawless.

We use these and they work very well.
