    Travel / Airport networking opportunities

Last year when travelling two and from HostingCon, I ran into about 5 other attendees including one when boarding my flight from Los Angeles to Austin, and another 3 when getting off the plane back in Sydney. There were no doubt others that I didn't know about.

If we had known that we were travelling on the same flights, we would have gotten together for a bit of a catch up/etc.

As many of us will be flying in the days surrounding the event, I thought it might be useful to start a thread where people could post some of their travel details and co-ordinate pre-hostingcon catch-ups.

I'll start. Here's my airport locations around the event:

If you're on any of them and want to join me for a pre-flight beverage or two at the airline's expense let me know. If you don't have access to the lounges, I might be able to do something as well (I'm Oneworld Emerald so have some guesting ability) - otherwise I think you can also purchase casual access to the Admiral's Club.

This is a great idea! I'll post our flight details as soon as we book the tickets, still figuring out options. Indeed, last year when coming bk from the cPanel conference we accidentally ran into a couple other attendees and it was super nice to talk some hosting and other geeky stuff on the flight.

I'm on a direct UA flight from IAD, so I'll be in the United Red Carpet Club around 1pm on 8/6 (flight departs 2:36pm), and 9pm on 8/10 (flight departs 10:30pm).

Shaun I have found tripit to be very useful for figuring out who would be traveling during the same times you are. Of course it would depend on how many people you are connected with on there as well.

Yep. I use TripIt for all of my travel planning (and have done so for a few years now), but you're right - you need to be connected to them.

Another option is Planely (http://www.planely.com). You add your flights, and it'll let you know what members are at the airport at the same time as you or on your flight. It can sync with TripIt as well.

All of my HostingCon flights are in Planely!

Is anyone planning to bring a surfboard with them? After all, there is some good surf around there and an early morning wake-up call in the ocean is always a good way to start the day!

Yup...I'm leaving for SanDiego from Italy in a few hours actually.
Planning to stay there for a bit and my loyal surfboard will be with me.

PM me when you come in SD and we can go for some surfing.
