I don't remember what I did before I had mine. No idea how well they're doing business wise, but I'm in love with the device.

The Kindle is the single largest selling product in the history of Amazon.com, it is a huge success. Recently Amazon announced that sales of Kindle ebooks have now exceeded sales of hard cover print books.

Perhaps Amazon does not sell Kindle books to people in India because of some bizarre legal issues, I don't know.

I have one and absolutely love it. I can email myself documents (or upload them via USB) to the device, too. Quite handy when I'm asked to read a proposal or technical documentation of some kind.

They are relatively common on airplanes when I travel, but I don't see them out in the general public too much.

Ditto what Mike V has said... wasn't sure I'd like mine, but I cannot imagine life without it!

I got one a few months back, I have an iPad but the weight of the kindle is hard to beat when reading books.

I've read so many more books on the Kindle, and my fiance even got one after seeing how nice it was

There are no legal issues here with Amazon/Kindle/India. It's just that it has not been promoted properly here, moreover I don't think Amazon has setup a local shop here and people does not have proper info on what it is for, how to get and use it.

They do have India in their country list, they accept orders and ship to India and they do have country specific information, but they need to do more to promote it here.

Mike V, how do you compare the actual book reading experience of Kindle e-book versus physical hardcover book? Do you prefer the Kindle reading experience, or do you just prefer the convenience?

My Mrs absolutely adores her kindle. Probably a bit too much for my liking at night time

I don't have a Kindle, but I read on my iPad and -- LOVE IT! I thought I wouldn't like it, but now I want to convert every book I have over to being an eBook. I can't describe why; perhaps it's just the fact that it's less clunky, but I find myself able to pay attention to the book, for longer periods of time.

I believe it is a success but I have never seen anyone using one.

It is a huge success and I've been wanting to have one for sometime now.

i htink there is a niche for Kindle. There will always be a competitor for Ipad, and Kindle woudl be the next best thing

Just wait until iPad multi-tasking becomes more usable. Then it might be harder to stay focused on an ebook, eh?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Are there other things you can do on a kindle except read books?

I mostly read hardcover books before this. Which I've regretted because they have an extremely low resale value and end up taking space. I'm going to probably end up donating the last few I bought, as I hate to throw them away.

The newest Kindle is incredibly easy to read and handle. After a while any room I'm in becomes stockpiled with junk, so this helps cut down on that immensely. When I showed it to my sister and turned it on, she thought the screen saver was a cover. And even when I'm reading it, I want to peel the screen off. It works outdoors in the sunlight too.

It can browse the web with a built-in web browser. No Flash and I'm not even sure Javascript works. Just the no-frills old-school Internet. Maybe I'll buy one for The Dude for Christmas . The browser doesn't show the WHT mobile skin yet, but if I remember to grab the browser's User-Agent string I could remind the right people to fix it.
If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.
