Firefox on a VPS?
Now, before I get flamed or anything, just hear me out, please.
I currently have an iMacro script setup to do automated tasks, and normally I would just use the scripting interface, which is custom-tailored for servers, but I am also using a grease monkey script I created to parse the information before it's collected into a CVS file.
Is there anyway to run Firefox on a VPS, so I can run iMacros along with greasemonkey(both are firefox extensions)? I know that firefox, and x-server are both resource hogs, but I would only use them 10 minutes at a time (at off-peak hours), about 1 or 2 times a day. If you don't think a VPS is the best choice for a task like this, could you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks in Advance!
Is it Linux VPS or Windows one?
I actually don't have a VPS yet. Either one is fine though.
You will get firefox installed by default with windows. But, in linux vps nobody use graphics. So there is less possibility of availability of firefox.
Get a Xen VPS, either Windows or Linux (Linux is harder to install though) - Xen/KVM Gurantees you ressources so you can run it at anytime there.
No. That is Internet Explorer.
You will get firefox installed by default with windows.
Incorrect, many do.
But, in linux vps nobody use graphics. So there is less possibility of availability of firefox.
On Debian it is in reality as simple as one apt-get line, wget'ing 3 Files and a dpkg -i + a Reboot.
After that you can NX connect to your machine running X with Gnome.
So would setup of firefox be as simple as easy as installing it from the command-line/terminal?
Well you need to first install the GUI, depending on the OS this can be a bit hard.
Right. Well, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm not terrible with linux. Any reccomendations on what plan to get? would 256 mb dedicated RAM be enough, or should I bump it up to 512?
You should get at least 512Mb RAM, while X and Gnome run fine on 384 and up you have no space for Firefox there anymore.
Best would be to get a 1GB plan, that will be vertainly enough.
If you are good with Linux you can try to use Fluxbox or xfce instead of gnome, this should work on 256Mb Ram with Firefox (but without good performance).
Right. I'm not going with Gnome, since I absolutely abhor it. I'll probably go with xfce. Thanks for all your help!
If there were a thank-you button, I would press it. Again, thanks for your help!

as what Zhang mentioned, get 1GB for smooth sailing.

He said that I could probably get off with 256MB Ram with XFCE or Fluxbox
