FTP Password incorrect - cPanel login fine

Hello,

When I try to login to any accounts on my server via FTP the responce is:

Quote:
[20/03/2008 15:41:15] 331 User restore OK. Password required
COMMAND:> [20/03/2008 15:41:15] PASS
[20/03/2008 15:41:16] 530 Login authentication failed
I can login to their cPanel accounts fine using the exact same password so I'm not sure what the problem is. I've tried restarting the FTP server and syncing the ftp passwords using WHM -> cPanel -> Synchronize FTP Passwords but still no luck. I've tried changing the account password but I can still login to cPanel with the new password but not ftp.

I try connect to the ftp server via the IP address and domain (ftp.domain.com) but again, no luck.

Do you guys have any advice to fix my problem?

Thanks.

are you using their login name as well as their password?

you said "accounts" (plural) and "same password".

are you trying to use the same password for several ftp accounts?

Hello,

This is cause the ftp passwords have not been synced with your passwords. This can be corrected by you if you have access to the server console as root user after which you can run the cpanel script /scripts/ftpupdate

So why not try to contact technical support to your hosting?

Hey ,

If you have access to the root of the server , then the above command will do the fix for you. You can go ahead and have it run on the shell prompt.

The reason for " 503 Login Authentication Failed" is incorrect ftp login information. So you should always make sure the following details are correct.

1. Host = domainname.com OR IP address (If you are using domain name, confirm that the domain name is resolving to the correct IP address)

2. Username = user@domainname.com (no need of @domainname.com if its the root user for the account)

3. Password = your password that you use to access the settings for the specific site/user account.

4. Port=21

Also confirm FTP server use port number 21 to transfer files.
