Slow Email Download using Email Client Software

    Hi,

I have been experiencing a bad time using a KnownHost VPS Server. It may be a configuration error or something too.

I have been maintaining few clients hosting accounts from my VPS accounts. My Clients got their own cpanel too. They create multiple email accounts required to them too.

What I am experiencing is too slow email downloading of such email accounts. Like if my client abc.com has a email account info@abc.com then all emails sent to that email accounts get delivered to its inbox quite fast. Its fine. We can verify/check the incoming mails from webmail and download it too. There is no problem if we use webmail interface. Its working fast and fine.

Since some of my clients are using desktop email softwares like outlook, eudora, thunderbird, etc they experience slow downloading of emails of their accounts. ie. just in same case of info@abc.com . In case of webmail interface its working fast and fine but when we configure it in outlook or any other desktop email client software and download emails to local computer then to download a mail of 500KB takes 5 mins. And even sometime if the mail attachment size exceeds 5MB then it says server timeout.

So i would like to know what thing is causing such a delay while using outlook or other email softwares. How can check the download speed/response time of my mail server?

    Hello,

I would highly advise in editing this post to remove and protect the client's email address and website.

Second, remember, by accessing webmail.usersdomainhere.com, they are actually accessing the email while on the VPS/Physical server. When a user downloads the email to their own Laptop/Desktp/Smartphone, they are relying on the speed of THEIR network connectivity. In order for the email to be sent to their own device (or email client) the email must be downloaded via the Internet, not just accessible via a webmail interface.

Ask your users to ping your VPS IP or instruct them how to perform a trace route. Either post the results here or you should be able to determine if latency is the issue - depending on the results of the two tests.

    Hope that helps!

That might be your issue - latency.

To confirm, run a ping to your server and paste those results. Also, where are you and where is your VPS?
