    What are your thoughts?

Depends how good it is, but there is still a long way to go. They will have to include modules for many other API and control panel before becoming a serious threat

Probably not, I imagine much like Plesk Billing, it will focus primarily on their own products and will leave out a lotof the modules WHMCS has. WHMCS is great primarily because of how well it integrates with everything.

I don't think so, cPanel won't compete with WHMCS licencing fees.

Can you share a link to this?

  7. #7
There is no release, so there is no link.

I think cPanel would have to work fast in order to make a stable and working billing system, however they will most likely leave out other softwares because there competitors. WHMCS will still hold the lead for a while before someone knocks it out.

There are many people using it for VPS, Dedicated, DirectAdmin, Plesk and an amalgamation of other random things. I highly doubt it.

I dont think we will switch from WHMCS even if this comes free with cPanel. We have a lot of backend systems integrating with WHMCS. cPanel is probably a bit late in entering the billing market.

I don't think, unless it will be the same quality or better and with free license with cpanel control panel license.

After it has been out a few years, and is proven to be stable, efficient and useful, id take a look by all means; until such a time though, WHMCS does everything I need it to, and I'm of the philoophy, "if something aint broken, don't fix it".

If it does prove to be a serious competitor to WHMCS, I don't think they will lose a great deal of sleep over it, but it should help them to keep on top of their game; competition is good for the industry!

I think that the product would need to incorporate fairly high WHMCS compatibility (e.g. importing WHMCS data easily) if it wished to pursue a lot of people switching from WHMCS.

Otherwise, I think that cPanel's billing software will slowly but surely build market share, especially if it mixes in a lot of cPanel/WHM integration and adds items like free mini-billing panels for clients of hosts (e.g. host reseller billing of clients).

I think if it came with cPanel as a optional it would help benefit new businesses who are starting up, but i believe everyone will move onto WHMCS because its easy to setup and use.

I assume it won't be free, but even if it is, it probably would just be free for cpanel servers. So other billing systems still have a market for other non-cpanel servers.

While it sound great, I don't know if I would move to it. In one other thread I got told not to put all my eggs in one basket. But what if WHMCS go out of business the next day? (Not saying that it will, but anything can happen)

WHMCS is more complete solution since it integrates well with many platforms. I think cPanel billing will probably focus on integrating billing with cPanel based servers only.

Also, most companies won't bother switching unless cPanel comes out with a superior product and offer some form of easy migration.

it's pretty new, I think most people would not take the risk to transfer over unless it's approved better than whmcs.

  21. #21
well, if you consume your value time to configure and mastering whmcs functions, and whmcs have almost complete requirements for billing/support, will you budget another period to learn new cpanel billing system?

but no doubt we should try something better if there are chances

Well, I do believe that the majority of folks who use the cPanel version will be the new resellers who have WHM/cPanel on their account. Old farts will probably stay with what they know and is already in place.

Its on the fence for me, depends on where cpanel takes the project, what features it'll have, but i dont see how it could spring into action being as good as whmcs

I would have to look far more into it when it is released. We currently have an owned license with WHMCS and it's serving us well for our needs so we have no intention of switching in the near future.

cPanel have the power and resources to make a big impact in the market. As Mike mentioned they could integrate their billing software with cPanel in ways we can't even imagine.

As mentioned above a very big factor is whether cPanel would support other control panels. If the answer is no they will still do very well but I don't think WHMCS would be in trouble.

However, I believe if WHMCS continue to develop the software as they are it will be very hard to take their dominant position in the market.
