Thread: Budget VPS

    Question Budget VPS

Following advices made by folks in this thread I tried VPS by these companies:

    123systems
    directspace
    semoweb

buyvm!: does not have its budget plans in stock.
burst!: I was disappointed by its unfriendly order process (needing signed documents)

All of them were OK, and my main concern was uptime, which was about 99% (few hours of downtime in a month).

Since I have simple websites which are hosted separately. I am still interested in this class of budget servers.

DO YOU HAVE ANY MORE SUGGESTION?

@OP, I would check reviews on volumedrive. Haven't been looking too great lately.

Also, check out lowendbox.com, they are a blog which lists budget, low end vps. Additionally the editor does mini-"background checks" on hosts, so you can easily avoid hosts with major problems.

    Good luck!

Simply put, TONS of budget hosts out there these days. The term budget in my opinion is used pretty loosely though, I think a fair balance between price and stability can be seen as "budget" but by no means skimps out on quality. Often times you pay for the name, some other times you pay a little extra for quality management over unmanaged, but at the end of the day "lowendbox" or the ad thread here on WHT is the place to start. See who you get a better "feel" for and give them a shot. Most offer money back offers so, just see what happens on a host with some good reviews here on WHT. Can't imagine you will be disappointed.

Thanks for your replies folks. Actually I want to have different servers. The idea option is what DirectSpace offers: 512MB RAM for $4 and 1GB for $6

In general, I wish to have 256-512 MB RAM. Others are not important (space and bandwidth). Any location in the US (though I may consider other countries too).

BUT as I quoted before, guaranteed uptime is they key feature.

Wow those are ridiculous prices. I dont even understand how they are turning a profit unless there overselling. We had a few servers with directspace once upon a time the network seemed solid just didnt like the fact there live support was never available, thats alwaways off putting for me personally.

Keep in mind you get what you pay for. If your budget is really that low per VPS, then I am not sure you will see the uptimes you are requiring over time. Raising your budget a little per box would be night and day differences in what you can find and the reliability/service performance you receive.

I would like to find a VPS where the hosting admin could not read PHP files for proprietary source code.

volumedrive - good hardware low prices - but you will have to deal with their slow support.
