    Lightbulb Server Traffic Generator

    Hi,

We want to offer network usage graphs in server users' client area.
We have tried some solutions but no considerable success.

Can anyone recommend any tested solution that can satisfy our need?

-All of our network equipment is Cisco

    Thanks

    MRTG works well.

Thanks, I'd guess I have to master SNMP to use MRTG,
And does it require another server or it can be installed on one main server?

    Thanks

I used cacti to monitor 10 switches, all of them can offer graphs for hours/weeks/months/years. Very decent application

    Cacti and MRTG suck...

Install observium automate the user creation and device allocation process and your pretty much set for life.

RTG - http://rtg.sourceforge.net/ works nicely although not the prettiest graphs but it does the job! Some people (myself included) have experienced odd Cacti 95th percentile calculations..

Love RTG. There is a bug in its 95th percentile calculations as well, though.

What bug would that be in RTG? We have been testing RTG for over a month now and we are releasing it into our network this week. I love the flexibility of being able to directly query the data from MySQL.

    Thanks.

I've heard a lot of praise of cacti and I'm curious to hear from cacti people what you think of zenoss?

I use cacti, because it does everything I need it to do. There are alternatives like Zabbix, Zennos and others. I tried Zennos, but I couldn't get it to work well enough out of the box, and didn't want to screw around with it because I stuck with Cacti.

The bug in the 95th people are talking about usually only comes into play on interfaces gigabit or faster. It was sopposed to be fixed by choosing to use the 64-bit counters, but I cannot comment on it, because I have never actually seen the bug first hand.

It's a matter of personal preference. Some like Zennos, some like Cacti... I wouldn't go with RTG though it's older than I am. While Cacti uses RTG, it at least wraps it night and gives you things like zoom, thresholds, monitoring, etc.

Cacti is a complete network graphing solution designed to harness the power of RRDTool's data storage and graphing functionality.

We use cacti, its great for working out who's fault it is. We had a outage, and DC claimed everything was okay. But we spotted that CPU usage went to 0%, RAM usage to 2% and httpd was up. So, our load balancer wasn't kicking in, which lead us to DC switch board wasn't up

I think this is the current non-plus-ultra of graphing:
    http://code.google.com/p/epicnms/

If you want something more proven, you can go with cacti (standard, but imho it's a time-sink because the configuration of objects is not very smart) for standard graphs or ntop if you also want flow based statistics.

If you want fast setup and can do some skinning the "old" best-of-class cricket might be what you need.

+1 for Observium, we use it to monitor all our servers and switches and it's simply awesome.

We're currently working on automating it with WHMCS to allow users to view their graphs.

It's going to be tailored to your setup.

Create a dedicated server module for whmcs that provision a user within the observium database, allocate port id.. easy as that.

    +1 for Cacti.

Can be quite nicely integrated into WHMcs as well if you can do PHP.

Okay so how do I create this module?
Does anyone already have something in place?
