Yahoo give more preference on meta tags specially title, keyword and description tags. Besides it, yahoo also give importance to backlinks, good and unique content.

Do as you do for Google, just add some more tags like keywords, meta description to the website.

Yahoo Algorithm is not far from Google Algorithm but different at some points, Yahoo gives much interests in taking its web directory as part of the its Ranking Algorithm.

No more difference between Google and Yahoo! algorithms both are similar but having little difference in both us.

    * Yahoo! given value of both types of links such as Nofollow & Dofollow also.

    * Yahoo! give priority first of Meta tags and description of website

    * content of website as per keywords and description based.

google rankings are depend of offpage optimization mostly when yahoo is targeted at onpage to my mind

I do not think the web direcotory is of any importance. Does Yahoo even offer it anymore?
Rankings of my sites are nearly the same on yahoo and Google, surpisingly better on Yahoo.
I think Yahoo values on-page optimization more, and maybe the number of backlinks, not so much the quality?.

Yahoo is more or less similar to Google in terms of giving websites ranks but it seems that it is still a bit more attentive to what goes on pages of websites. For instance although Yahoo and naturally Bing are like Google when it comes ti finding links pointing at domain names to calculate their overall rankings, but if some H tags or higher keyword densities have been used in content creation, those spots could have better ranks on Yahoo.

Some websites with strong on page optimization are found to have better Yahoo ranks compared with their Google positions. Title tags combined with unique descriptions which contain instances of the main targeted terms can help having better ranks on Yahoo. Links are still needed, especially the ones coming from relevant sources that would increase ranks of websites on Yahoo as well as Google search engines gradually.

It sounds like the consensus based on the posts from others is that Yahoo's ranking algorithm is simiar to Google's algorithm, but perhaps with these suggestions for webmasters:

    1. Use a meta description on the page (if you're not already)
    2. Add some meta keywords
    3. Be careful with the page title

Poster snapshot also mentioned in his post, "Title tags combined with unique descriptions which contain instances of the main targeted terms can help having better ranks on Yahoo." Would others agree?

From my view, Yahoo does not give much importance for back links instead it gives importance for contents such as meta tags, description, relevancy, keyword richness, error free and plagiarism free content, links from the sites that is already well indexed and familiar to yahoo in your niche and so on.
But, surely there are a lot difference between Google and Yahoo SE because I'm a well optimizer in Google and got very good result same time. If Yahoo also considering the same means then why not i got good result in Yahoo. That is the question that was arisen in my mind.

Yahoo's results are powered by Bing. If you optimize your website for Bing its automatically will show on Yahoo.

Both are important, you can't ignore any one if yahoo is fine than Google is divine.

Most important thing to know about Yahoo ranking is that you need to do 2 things. First keyword density on your content to be around 5%. Second thing is to use services from yahoo like groups and yahoo answers to spread your content.

    List of Google’s ranking factors:

    1) Presence of search term in HTML title tag
    2) Presence of search term in HTML body copy
    3) Use of bold around search term
    4) Use of header tags around search term
    5) Presence of search term in anchor text leading to page
    6) PageRank of a page
    7) PageRank / authority of an entire domain
    8) Speed of web site

Use keywords for folder names and file names.Design your site to be "spider-friendly".spiders can not fill out forms or click on flash menus. Always have an alternative HTML link that spiders can travel through to crawl your entire site. The best way to go about this is have a sitemap that contains links to every page of your site.

Judging by the poor quality of sites that come up high in serp on Yahoo, it looks suspiciously like paying them is a large factor.
As part of my seo strategy, I do a lot of comparing. This has shown repeatedly that yahoo returns sites in the top 5 that have low keyword density, low quality content and should have no business ranking that high in organic search.

Optimization for Yahoo or Google, you need to follow white hat method mainly, if you don't do it then you may not be able to optimize for Yahoo or Google as well.

On the other hand, Yahoo give weight to directories mainly, if you managed to get approval from Yahoo Directory and Dmoz then it is really awesome, I think as well.

Blackhatting is getting more and more dangerous, as several big companies found out after Panda.

It doesn'n matter the slightest bit where your keywords are in the se's top.
What matters is where your keywords are in terms of what YOUR PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS search for e.g. "sell my house" ranks 10 times higher than "repair my boiler" in eiter se, but my business will not benefit from being found for "sell my house"

The ranking factors of both the Google and Yahoo are almost similar in case of SEO. However the main difference is that the Yahoo demands more relevant keywords and the meta description as compared to Google. Rest of the criteria such the good contents, links at proper places are same.
