    Supermicro server setup

    Yo--

Please provide me suggestions on this server setup:

    Supermicro CSE-111LT-330CB (330W psu w/rails)
    Supermicro X8SIL-F
    Xeon X3440
    2 x 4GB EEC DDR3-1333
    2x 80GB intel 320 series

Any idea the power requirements of this server? we want to be able to upgrade it later on.

    Thanks

No, the PSU is okay. The values that I mentioned are for full load.

Looks like a good spec, the only thing I would consider is a Sandybridge Xeon, the motherboard and processor are about the same cost as the X3440 and X8SIL-F yet the CPU packs 3.2Ghz instead of 2.4Ghz.

Suggest wiring up the 2 extra drive bays to your sata ports/controller for future expansion (easy to forget to do that).

Also, the read/write performance of the 160GB 320 series is apparently quite a bit higher than the 80GB: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4244/intel-ssd-320-review

    Nevermind, decided to go with

Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) SSDSC2MH120A2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Will this setup use the same or around the same power as the previous setup?

Not going to work, needs to be unbuffered.

OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Do not choose a SSD just because it has a SATA 3 label.
The 120 GB Vertex 3 is at the bottom of the list speed wise if it comes to typical server usage (=random reads)

The Intel 510 uses a Marvell controller, which may be fine, but I would personally use the 320, which uses Intel's proven controller. The 320 also has some reliability features that make it more suitable for a server, such as capacitors for flushing the cache on power loss.

Hmmm, I thought W = Amp x Volts, so, a 250W on 120V should need 2A. There was something about single phase/three phase but don't remember now.

    Cheers,
    Abdul
