Their website seems to cater more for the upper market now, and their prices have increased a lot too. I wouldn't be surprised.

That's what I had thought, but somehow thought they got bought out by ThePlanet a long time ago and stopped being their own brand. Or am I confusing them with someone else?

Raising prices is not a bad move if you actually back it up with solid services. Many providers here (and out there) are selling for far less then they could sell for, playing a dangerous game on small margins.
Besides costs for everything but bandwidth (and this will change soon) is rising year by year, fact is that dedicated servers are rented out below their cost by some parties and thats eventually not good for anyone certainly not for the parties that do play the 'who blinks first' game.
Healthy margins, solid data-centers, solid gear, professional support will eventually triumph and i am sure everyone realizes this if they think twice about it.█ Swiftway.net Your Business deserves our Quality - Experts on Hand since 2005. We were once a customer of LT .. and believe me they were one of the most pathetic datacenters around..
Once we had a server crash and the server had two drives.. one was the OS drive and other was backup...
LT technicians said, the servers main OS primary drive had failed and need to be replaced.. We warned them to preserve our backup drive and authorized them to replace the faulty bad primary OS drive with reloaded OS. Later LT misplaced our backup drive as well and we were left without backups...
Thank fully we had off site backups (which were a couple of days old) but LT were so careless to misplace our backup drive that instead of refunding us for the inconvenience caused, they did not even bother to appologize.. I am glad they are not around here anymore.. Probably they wer never worth to be in this industry..
Btw this incident took place in around 2006 when they had not acquired Fastservers till then..● RSHosting.com: Reliable & Secure, Managed Web Hosting since 2003

I believe LT bowed out of the WHT when they purchased FastServers a while back and then raised prices.

Who defines healthy margins? Some of the more profitable hosting companies cater what Swiftway calls the budget servers. Do they have more downtime and more issues than other parties? I very much doubt it. With scale, business volume, they know downtimes are more expensive than running a quality business.
Don't make the mistake to compare the small price competing hosters with the large industry leaders.i3D.net (www.i3d.net) - Contact our sales team at: sales@i3d.net

ahh LT one always remembers their first.
completed freak out for the majority of clients when they raised prices. The discussion about the price hikes were pretty intense in the LT forums (I tried to find the forums, seems they have shut them down).

I don't have any idea what you mean to be honest. What are you saying? Having better margins per unit but still selling lots of units is always a good thing right?
I have no idea if their volume is the same but I know their margins are better than most hosts on WHT.

I am 100% sure that the Premium industry leading providers provide better service and uptime then the budget industry leaders. Thats eventually the inevitable difference between Premium and Budget:: Martin Leclair

Today they posted a for-hire ad on Cisco-NSP for both Kansas City and Dallas. Can't be doing that bad if they are hiring skilled/technical positions in multiple locations.

Eh .. while I understand where you are coming from I have seen departments downsize 5 people and hire back 2 positions a couple of months later. They cut too many positions or jettisoned higher cost employees. It doesn't mean they are doing well from that alone. It just means they have an opening.
