You have to give the guy props for his boldness.

Hell, i'd call him in for an interview. At the very least just to be entertained for 20 minutes in the middle of a bunch of run-of-the-mill interviewees.

Of course, I wouldn't actually hire him (based on that cover letter). But it'd still be entertaining none-the-less.

That was a pretty funny read.

6 months ago when I was job hunting I got bored of sending the same old cover letter so I changed it. I don't have access to the actual letter I used, but it went something like this:

    "To Whom it May Concern,

By now, you're probably very bored of reading very boring job applications from very boring job applicants who are looking to leave their currently boring job and start a not-so-boring new job like yours. Well, I got bored of writing those boring cover letters, so I'm going to tell you just four not-so-boring things.

    1. I'm enthusiastic, very passionate about the industry and known for my positive attitude.

    2. I have nine years of on-hands experience having lived and breathed this industry.

    3. I have a lot to teach others, but even more to learn. I'm outspoken and confident when required, and an even better listener when I need to be.

    And finally...

    4. If you hire me, I guarantee I'll make your company more money than you pay me.
The wording was probably a little better, but that's generally how it went.

I used it six or seven times, and probably 80% of the companies got back to me with a response, if only to comment on the quality of the cover letter.

My girlfriend has used the same cover letter since and she too has received a huge response rate compared with a normal cover letter.

When you're applying for jobs, you're essentially marketing yourself. And as such the same old marketing rules apply... make sure you stand out from the crowd!

He misspelled "taupe". He lost all credibility at the end of that letter to me

Well he did achieve one thing, he stands out in the crowd. Unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

Agreed. Seems worth an interview. Could either be a success, or a crash and burn.
