    Importance of CPU?

I was just curious about the importance of processor speed on a VPS? How does it actually make a difference when it comes to user experience, speeds and etc. when it comes to hosting a Wordpress blog or VBulletin forum? Do bandwidth, memory and I/O speeds have greater significance?

IO generally has the biggest impact and is often the bottleneck on VPS systems. That's not to say you can totally skimp out on the CPU either. It's all about finding a balance.

Having adequate CPU resources is certainly a factor as Orien noted.

But this is more at the provider's end. Do they provide the right combination of CPU and IO to process all the requests in a reasonably fast manner for all the VPS on their node?

I/O wait times are also a huge factor. If the provider is using a Dual Westmere or Nehalem generation 6 core) on a single drive VPS node and has 30 users on that node; the CPU power is going to be there but the IO speeds will probably not be satisfactory.

I am sure there are but none I am aware of. I know there are several threads on here that many users have posted their stats on.

a right combination is required for RAM, CPU, Disk IO and Network otherwise you will not be able to use the full resources if one of them is below the mark.
A good provider offers packages having a balance to all them.

A good provider will give you MRTG graphs that show you the CPU and RAM usage. These are great for keeping track of how much you are using your VPS and allows you to stay ahead of the game before things slow down to your sites users. Disk IO is also important but fine tuning and wordpress optimizations by the host can really help these. Getting a fully managed host also gives you a leg up as the server work is done by people that do it for a living and allow you to focus on your sites and traffic.
