    Urgent : hosting

Heya people. I am new here.

    I need some advises.

I will be buying various domains and accordingly, a web space for the domains. No big specification. Hosting providing PHP and Mysql support coz I will be installing wordpress on some.

Should I buy individual web domains and web space for each account ? or does there exist a way easier way for this.

I was thinking of a global account which would allow me add domains and dedicate each domain a hosting space. Something like this exist ?

I've been though a lot of web hosting websites and some offer unlimted domains - what does this imply ?

Also, what would be a reseller hosting ?

Sorry for my noob questions and I thank you all for you help in advance :-)

You should be looking for a reseller account, there are plenty of options in the offers section.

the term "unlimited Domains" means, you can add unlimited amount of domains to your account, so you can add 30 domains if you wanted to that 1 account

you can run your websites though the one account just park them in cpanel and select a directory to use,

    hope this helps!

From what I've seen in the past:
Get your domains from a renown domain vendor
Get your hosting separately so your domains are not bound to your host if you wish to change because the host doesn't fit your needs.
Unlimited domains is the number of domains you can have on your account, and this is reasonable if your total domains don't use too much resources on a shared account.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot :-) I was thinking of buying an account with justhost.

Uhm, reseller's account are expensive and sincerely speaking, i don't have this much finance (it's not a pretext).

Concerning the unlimited domains, i would be requiring only about 15 domains with 10mb space for each. Should I go for a normal hosting ?

  6. #6
you can!, id advise you to contact the hosting provider first, and ask them about that just to make sure they allow it, but as ubservers said, if you can get a different account for every domain, just so your not restricted

A good shared hosting provider will most likely fit your needs since they are not enormous.

I won't say: don't go with JustHost, but just be sure to read carefully their ToS especially if you have multiple domains with Forums and such because of their Inodes limits of 25k if I remember well which in facts limits your total "Unlimited Space".

Knowing your needs, a 5Gb space will be more than enough and way safer!

You would want a reseller account if you want/need to manage the sites separately. If they are all being managed by the same person and don't require a lot of resources, which sounds like your situation, then add-on domains on a regular hosting account will do fine.

You can go for a shared hosting account then buy your domains to a known provider. About the shared hosting, you can check the advertisement for some offers that will suit to your budget.

You could just use Cpanel shared hosting and park the domains onto different FTP accounts simple cheap and all on one account.

This would also save having to point all the domains to different location and would take about 10-15mins to setup.

There are a lot of good hosts on here that i am sure will help you out.

You can do this by creating FTP accounts but in my opinion you certainly need a reseller account.

One other thing that nobody else has yet said is that one account, which is used to host all the domains, would allow you to share the diskspace and bandwidth allocation between those 10 or so domains. Whereas if you set up 10 small accounts, if one domain became much busier than all the others you wouldn't be able to use up the slack from the other domains to meet that need.

Of all the limitations you will ever have, Surprisingly you get UNLIMITED limitations with Bandwidth.

I personally do not quite know why people are recommending him to get a reseller hosting account. I mean, if the OP is going to be the only one taking care of all his website (which sounds to me like the case), could he just buy a simple shared hosting account and put the rest as add-on domains?
Just my 2 cents since shared hosting is a lot cheaper than reseller.

If your websites have databases, I would recommend using a reseller account to manage it. It is easier to manage a website on a hosting account, than having multiple websites on a hosting account.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. There are tonnes of shared webhosts on this forum if you want to check the hosting offers section if you have not had your mind set yet.

Thanks for helping out. I have not yet made up my mind. I want to go with justhost and read really good reviews about them.

But at the same time, I am scared. I mean, I don't want to end up choosing the bad hosting :-/

(by any chance, someone who could tip me a nice cheap by reliable hosting ? - hope I am not being too exigent, if yes, my apologies )

    Thanks again everyone :-)

    What's your ideal budget?

should I say about $55 yearly ? and i can go till 65 I guess. it may sound way cheap but I live in a country where the currency is really weak compared to other curriencies :/

That's $4.50-$5 a month. There is hosting out there for that, but reliability will vary a lot. You won't be using databases, but others on the shared server will.

I don't know which country you are in, but another factor would be if most of the visitors to your site come from your own country. In that case, hosting in your own country, or nearby, makes things faster for them. Often, though, to stay within your budget, you find you're constrained to certain countries (like the US).

Let us all know how you get on

I am from Mauritius island. There will be not much traffic and not much people visiting the websites. Sizes per websites will only be about 5-10 MB and no database or anything. Hope it helps :/

It's easier with a reseller account to manage so many domains, in my opinion. I like the flexibility of reseller hosting compared to standard shared hosting.

Reseller accounts are not that expensive. You should be able to find a small and reliable reseller account for less than US$ 5. Just check the promotional reseller offers at WHT.

I would suggest that you avoid unlimited space and bandwidth hosts and moreover avoiding hosts that offer unlimited domains for a massively low price. You would only be getting yourself into highly oversold servers.

5 per month is a pretty big budget to me I think, I never paid more than 5 per month (ok, all but with once) during my shared hosting days. I used Stablehost before and they are pretty good, and SpeedySparrow and MDD are frequent posters here and have many good reviews, although they may be a bit higher (still reasonable though) on the price spectrum. Since you have a lot of domains to host, be careful with the number of add-on domains you are allowed to have when selecting hosting plans.

Agree with both the posts above.

And I'm still not persuaded by those who are arguing that a reseller account would be worth the extra that it would cost.

May be we are hurting a potential profitable transaction for some of the providers here (I would assume reseller hosting is more profitable than shared)

It is possible for a host to provide unlimited accounts.
    when it says 5 GB..people think ah,Only 5.
but normal websites cannot actually can never fill out 5-10 GBs

A Person can afraid to give his access to other people. so he'll never host anyone else's site.

but resellers do that.thats the Risk which cause
    1) the limitation of resellers.
    2) unlimitation of Shared for pretty cheap.

a Unlimited Domain Plan can be okay, but Reseller account is more Reliable, I agree.

True enough. But for the extra money for a reseller account, what does the account holder get in return as opposed to a shared hosting account with enough capacity? Remember the OP's sites are not going to be DB driven.

Generally a lot of providers will limit your add-on domains as it can degrade system performances, the use of "Unlimited" domains under cPanel can certainly show in effects over time and generally a reason to why we don't allow it on Shared Accounts.

Reseller services usually are separated from the group so it does allow more room for growth, however, restrictions we enforce are for a reason.

We do appreciate your interest in SpeedySparrow and if there is anything we can assist with please do let us know.
