Raid Card for Raid-1?
If I plan to run 2x1tb drives to run in raid-1 should I just go with software raid or is there a good cheap card I should buy?
Most of Providers would recommend you hardware RAID1.
How much is ur provider going to charge you for hardware RAID1?
Personally i prefer hardware RAID myself.
We are building a system of our own, so we are trying to weigh out if its worth spending whatever it may cost for a decent raid-1 card or if people thing software raid will be sufficient...
As for hardware raid, I suggest going for Areca or 3ware, we have had very good experience with both.

Yes, they are good cards but what we are asking is it worth spending $100-$200 on a card for just raid-1 when we could just go with free software raid?
Unless you want hot-swap functionality I would actually favour software RAID.
You can get better performance than hardware raid1, overheads are non-existant on modern CPUs and its free.
Suggest Adaptec 2405 for hardware RAID1.
Software RAID can also do hotswap (ahci enabled in BIOS).
