    Angry Repair in Colo?

    Hello,

    I am from India, I have a server in Colorado Springs.

    My server has been crashed 2 - 3 times, and now not starting.


    How can I repair this?

    Pay the datacenter to fix it... what more can you do.

    I am from other country, they're replace my Hard Disk if I send a HD to their Data Center but Its very difficult for me and this will eat my lots of time.


    I am agree to pay him for repairing my server but they're saying that I need to send my Server to Repair Shop(I am from other country so I can't pickup this server )

    Don't you have any spare there? When colocating, it is important that you have spare from power supply, Mobo, drives, etc... so your data center can easily swap it.

    I would try to ask if they know a local shop that may have parts and see if you could pay a bit more for them to deliver to you. Not a good place to be in

    This is where dedicated can benefit you, if you don't have spares. Colo is great with economies of scale but for small colo it can be a real headache as well.

    There is no quick solution, part of the costs of colo is keeping spares of all components on site (sometimes easiest just to keep a spare high spec server). Rent a dedicated server if you need your content back online quickly.

    I think where alot of it fails is because people see colo places willing to take in 1-4u servers for ~$50 per month then go on the likes of ebay buy aload of cheap gear to get send over to the colo then dont realise of what happens when said hardware fails, Its nothing to do with the colo itself its just "budget" minded clients wanting to cut afew quid.

    I purchased this server from WHT offer section, In starting when I talk to Colo owner(on AIM) then he says me that they've spares and they can change my hardware and not they're deny

    Maybe AIM store logs..

    Its been a few days already, by now you could have gotten something overnighted if you ordered yesterday and it would be arriving today..

    We're the Colo provider, we can replace HDDs without a problem, however we don't sell HDDs so we've requested that he ship some and we'll install them and re-OS his server as needed. We've also offered storage for spare parts within reason (i.e. not a whole spare server) for free.

    All the drives in his server have errors, we've re-OS'd it numerous times even after the failing drive issue was discovered just to keep him online until his parts arrive, he's only been billed for 4 total hours (@ $25/hr as a sign of good faith to help) of remote hands over 6 OS reloads and other issues.

    There's really not too much more we can do as it is his hardware that has failed and we're not a hardware vendor. If the parts are delivered we're more than happy to help and have done so.

    He has indicated he shipped us two drives overnight, we're waiting for them and will install them and reload the server as soon as they arrive.

    Even if your not in the US, you should be able to buy and have Newegg/Provantage/eWiz/etc (a US retailer) ship out parts to the datacenter. I've had drives fail and although I don't keep spares, I typically have Amazon overnight a drive over and the DC is able to accept the shipment and replace the drive.
