Agreed. You need some serious infrastructure to even sustain 25gbps. Wonder if that is a screencap from the upstream with aggregate bandwidth?

First, read more about Cisco ACE.
25Gbps DDoS are too less information.. we don't know how many new connections per seconds there are. also don't know how many pps...
So this attack can be distribuited to 2 or 3 server that have 10Gbps connections in fiber.
Can distribued with dns round robin or with IP Load Balancing.
To balance the traffic can have 2..4..6.. routers.. or 1 Cisco Ace with fiber modules. Don't think that there are only one router that route the traffic directly to the server. All traffic pass in some routers (dependes where it from) so one IP can be manadge by more routers and each router forward all traffic in each servers are configured for this IP.
If we know the list of the IP attackers can just forward it with DNS resolution to anothers servers so make the site partial online..

I think the only people that can mitigate something of this magnitude are the guys from Akamai .

not only that, but for no reason?
They risk losing there server(s), jail time, and for a site that has no reason to attack. Reasoning just doesn't add up here.
