Are you looking for a provider that can provide and host a box like this? If so, what's your budget and connectivity requirements?

    Yes

    What does connectivity requirements mean?
Right now I'm having problems even finding something like this, so I'm open to various options

That kimsufi would work if it were just had a bit more space on it
    but are kimsufi's slow?

By connectivity, I mean what kind of bandwidth needs do you have? Do you think 10Mbps would work?

I don't have any experience with the Kimsufis. Most providers should be able to do this kind of server, but it would be a custom build and you'd need to contact their sales departments.

Yep, it's how fast you'd be able to put and get the data to/from the storage server. It'd take quite a while to fill 15TB at just 10Mbps (145.635556 days, according to Google), so I'm guessing you'll probably want a bigger connection.

Providers aren't allowed to advertise here, but like I said, most will be able to accommodate this kind of server, you'll just need to talk to a salesdrone. The smaller shops especially tend to be more willing to do custom builds.

You can't just spin up some amazon s3 and physically ship them some drives to offload data to instantly?

where can i ask for offers? is there a forum for that?

yeahh 145 days that would take quite a while so 10 mbps is too slow
so maybe 100 Mbps - 1000 Mbps? something in that range

idk, my servers are at OVH and they don't manage anything
so i dont think they can accept that
and i dont think i can ship it, they are too big

Do you want the storage in any level of RAID for redundancy?
You could get a server with 8x 2TB SATA HDDs and have approximately 15.5TB available.

Though you would have no redundancy if any of the drives you failed, and you would have to treat each one as an individual storage device, it wouldn't "look" like 1 big 15.5TB disk.
Your requirement is possible in any shape or form, but I have a feeling that your budget may not get you there. You will need at minimum an 8-bay server chassis, then if you want RAID, you will need more drives and an expensive RAID card.

    What's your budget?
Also how much bandwidth do you require and what about your other hardware requirements?

    i dont need raid
well i guess something in between the price of the kimsufi's
they have 5x2 tb for about $220
    and 12x2 TB for $560

  13. #13
I believe you wont find a 24TB space for 560$ somewhere else.
If you are ok with OVH, go ahead and take that deal.

Not because their prices is good. To tell you the truth, Most if not all the providers here will not do it for anything like that price or even near to it at all. Try making your budget about 2.5 times what it is now and perhaps then you will be able to find providers here.

Contact any company sales, they will offer you special offers for storage servers.
You can find companies, which can offer 3 TB hard drives.

Way to small for his request, also too expensive for the offered space (you can get 8Tb storage for that price elsewhere)

Swiftway.net can do a basic server with 12x2TB for around $500 with [email protected] But you'd have to use software RAID at that price point.

I will tell you a small secret: if you do not select a raid controller but select 12 HDD then you get a hardware raid controller for free, but one of our choosing.
This is done because the mainboard does not support 12 HDD by itself.

Lot of hosts offer 8x 2TB, check the offers section. However the price you've posted at $500 sounds cheap. Assume that's desktop drives, and no hardware RAID, no hotswap, etc.

    OVH, Leaseweb, Swiftway... many more...
After all its just 4x2Tb HDDs hooked up to some older Server or even an Atom board which is more than enough for backups.
Incoming BW is not a problem, most DCs have that free anyway.

What exactly are you trying to do with that many dicks? If your servers are currently at OVH and you have your backup at OVH, if a billing mishap happens or something you may lose your data anyways, but then it starts to become cost prohibitive transferring that much data without an unmetered private network..

You say you don't need RAID. I am curious about that. What are you planning to store that will take up 15TB of disk space but is not important enough to protect with RAID?
