    Basic Firewall settings

Is there a basic iptables file with comments so you can just uncomment the services you use?

I looked for it but I didn't find it.

I need just httpd, named (nameserver to namesever), ftp, ssh and I'm sure I could set up some very good security but I have no idea how to do it

Also the websites will send mail from another server so I guess that should be covered too.

    Thank you.

Do you have any control panel installed like cPanel?

Use CSF, DDoS Deflect, Mod Security.

I'd also recommend to use a package like CSF ( for configuring your firewall. For common scenarios, this is usually much more efficient and more secure than coming up with the rule sets yourself or copying them from somewhere.

Base of CSF is IPTables. So if you are very good with IPTables Rules Manipulation go with that. But CSF is user friendly.

Personally I use CSF. However, if you didn't want to use that, you can build your own Firewall script from the following site:

You could also install Webmin which has a web interface with a connector to Shorewall firewall. Pretty simple to use as well.
