    looking for DDOS protection service

I'm looking for DDOS protection service [ webPIPE or similar service from blockdos.net].
The problem that all services I found are priced on per-site basic. In my case I have tens of virtual websites, like fr.example.com, uk.example.com and so on - all of them are pointed to the same IP (it's the same site with some customization for different customers).
So even if basic price seems OK, pricequote for all my sites seems crazy.

    Any suggestions are welcome.
    TIA,
    Vitaly

Hello and Welcome to WHT vitaly_il,

Best to contact your Dedicated Server provider and ask them about it. They will be able to install a hardware anti-DDOS for you and it might even cost you less than what you are going to pay using the other sites.

    thank you!
I already spoke with my hoster, they told me that their internal DDOS protection system wasn't able to mitigate recent attacks and suggested to use external proxy.

Using a proxy is going to be a more costly, performance impacting solution. The preferred method of mitigation is to use the services of a company with native capability.

Do you have any idea how large the ddos attack is, and the type of it?

Erm.... I've personally never heard of a host telling you that they could not take care of a DDoS problem till today/now. Most if not all the host that I know should/would be able to take care of the problem for you.

That's kinda weird that they said they you'd have to use an external proxy.

The vast majority of hosts do not have substantial DDoS defenses.

That should be extremely easy to mitigate, as they can simply block it without impacting httpd at all.

Erm... it was only that and your host is telling you they could not do anything about it and that you need to go with an outside proxy?

    Here's the interesting question:
    1. Who is your host?
    2. Why can't they mitigate that?

    And to you...
    3. Give a thought about changing to a better host.
    4. Are you willing to use double the amount of money you use on your server to get an outside proxy? Or do you want to move?

Those are the questions you should be thinking about.

swiftnoc - totally agree with you, there is no algorithmic problem to filter bad traffic.

no, at this step I don't want to move. It's not one server, it's tens of servers. so it seems me reasonbe to pay +5-10% to DDOS protection proxy.

If 5-10% is the price, then you would be totally OK. But the problem is not 5-10%, it's more like 50-100% or even more.

That's the biggest problem that you're actually facing. If it ever happens again, will you host help or will they just say... "Sucks to be you."

Tens of servers is a BIG move but if your host will work with you on this, then what's the point?

yes, we're speaking just about $500-$1000/month.

I found a few proxy filtering services, but I hope to hear customer's feedback about different companies.
