Post Beta test new BQBackup feature: Rsync setup wizard for shared hosting and resellers

BQBackup is currently testing a custom-developed backup solution for shared hosting accounts and hosting resellers. In the past, customers generally set up the backup using an SSH shell, following a set of instructions. Our new setup wizard does not require shell access, and is very easy to use.

Step 1: Upload our PHP file to your website
Step 2: Access it through your browser to configure the backup
    Step 3: Relax!

We are currently seeking beta testers. You will be provided with 2GB of backup space for the duration of the test period, which is expected to run through June 30.

If you have any questions, feel free to post here. If you would like to participate, please email me directly at [email protected].

The setup script is run on your server, and it configures an automatic daily cron job to run Rsync. The backups are pushed from your server to our backup server, and it uses key-based authentication, which the setup script takes care of for you. Since your server initiates the backups, and they are pushed to the backup server, the backup server does not need to have access to your hosting account. This works with standard shared hosting accounts, so root access is not required.

    Hi Chris,

If you want to try this with multiple users, we can actually install the backend part in your reseller backup space. I'll follow up by email.

    Hi,

Will this tool be free? I just signed up for your service.

Will this be a alternative to cpremote plugin?

    Thank you so much.

I'm not familiar with cpremote, but we are working on cPanel and WHM integration right now, and DirectAdmin should be supported next.

cpremote is a whm plugin that helps to automate rsync transfers to backup servers.

    http://cpremote.net/ <- is the url.

I would love to see features such as those of cpremote in your script too

Our cPanel integration script will have many similar features, but it doesn't require installing a cPanel plugin (which requires root access). We do plan on creating a plugin as an extra convenience, but it won't be necessary.

I suggest you to have a restore function for easily restoring cpanel accounts.

Can this be used on a vps with out cpanel or directadmin? I don't use either, but it would be nice to have an easy way to setup backup.

Yes, but you would have to run the setup script separately for each user, and it wouldn't include system files. If you have root access, I would just use our normal Rsync setup instructions, which take about 5-10 minutes to follow, and it will back up your entire server.

That hasn't been determined yet. For now, it is free for BQBackup users.

This is specifically designed to work with our backup servers. There are backend components that are required on the backup server for it to work.
